THEME STATEMENT: It’s the crux of the essay and it limits the scope of your essay A
In the contemporary era of technology, the nations of the world have developed N
arsenals detrimental enough to counter threats from hostile nations, thereby,
ensuring national security which is indispensable for the survival of states but
the inclination of few nations towards the use modern warfare technology to rule
the world has amplified the menace of mass destruction which needs to be
countered by the international community in order to save the world from the
threat of massive destruction.
NOTE: After writing the theme statement, extend the introduction by building theory on the basis of
the theme statement and mention all the important points that you plan to discuss in the essay in the
introduction, but very briefly. Moreover, conclude the introduction on a positive note.
In the neck portion, you have to discuss historical background, current scenario, definition and
types, if any.
You have to write about history of warfare, modern warfare techniques and types, if any, in this part of
the essay.
Automatic weapon system allows machines to choose their targets and a machine makes no
discrimination between a soldier and a civilian which can cause civilian casualties on a large
scale.
Modern technologies that are used in war remain in the hands of civilians who are expert in
using advanced technologies which is the emerging concept in modern warfare.
SUGGESTIONS
Technological advancement must be directed towards the well-being of humanity. The world must build
a consensus on putting its focus on the use of technology for the development of mankind rather than for
the achievement of competitive advantage in warfare. War, either conventional or technological, brings
misery and destruction for the inhabitants of the world. On the other hand, technology can be used for
the betterment of people. It can be used for the eradication of poverty from the unprivileged areas of the
world. Technology can bring revolution in the education sector. The use of technology can avert famines,
floods and other natural calamities. Moreover, economic activity can be enhanced with the help of
technology. Even the curse of terrorism can be countered through technology. Technology can help in
medical field to find cure of deadly diseases. If the energy and resources, which are being used in
development of combat weapons by the nations of the world, are diverted towards the benefit of human
beings, they will yield magical results for the entire world.
“Although many countries in the world have achieved success in introducing technological innovation in
warfare to safeguard their citizens and to maintain their integrity; however, the blatant misuse of this
technology has resulted in widespread human casualties in many parts of the world which may end in
the destruction of this beautiful planet.”
