Clinical Research: Our Significant Role as Nurses

In all fields, the significance and relevance of research are indisputable. Its
serves as the framework on which all kinds of processes and systems in all fields are
based. In line with this, it’s far more important in the nursing profession, for the reason
that healthcare and well being of individuals and whole communities are at stake. The
role of nurses in research goes beyond the role of students, who are just trying to get
through their bachelor programs. The role of nurses in research is much more complex.
Through the application and utilization of the correct and appropriate research methods
and techniques, nurses can change research cultures, develop new medical
techniques, support the trials of new and emerging procedures, promote alternative
therapies, and many more.

As research nurses, it is vital to uphold integrity and credibility by abiding by the

ethics of clinical research. For example, it is well known that plagiarism will never be
tolerated in any field, most especially in the research field. Moreover, a research nurse
must uphold values such as confidentiality, and veracity. Due to ethical considerations,
and possible negative repercussions, research data must never be tampered with.

To summarize, research is very important in every profession, and possibly far

more in the nursing profession. As a student nurse, I will do my best to uphold research
ethics, and utilize it to contribute to the betterment of the healthcare profession.
