Understanding and ability to apply advanced Finite Element Analysis in the design cycle to calculate stresses, strains and stiffness of structures including nonlinear material behaviour. Content: Light Weight Design: Principles and objectives of light weight design; One-dimensional members (Bars and Beams); Plates and shells; Stability problems; Selected examples of light weight design Advanced Finite Element Method: Theoretical background of FEM, fundamental equations, numerical accuracy and convergence, applications and influence of boundary conditions, nonlinearity (material); lab exercises Exam: Light Weight Design: Written exam, 120 minutes Advanced Finite Element Method: Individual semester project Teaching tools: ppt presentations, audio-visual material Literature: Lecture Documents; textbook references will be given in the lecture
