Oral Presentation- Vulvar Plan Study

Project Description:
You will be presenting a comparative plan study in MyMedia. Find a vulvar case that was treated in
your clinic to present to your peers. Provide a comparison of a 3D conformal and an IMRT/VMAT
treatment planning technique and the rationale behind your final treatment technique choice. You
may choose the arc/beam arrangements but one plan must be 3D and the other plan IMRT/VMAT.
The total dose delivered must be the same for both plans.
The entire presentation should be at least 10 minutes and no longer than 25 minutes. You will
post the link to your presentation in the Discussion forum in Canvas by the assigned date in your
syllabus.

Required Information:
• Describe the location and extent of the disease (The tumor volume should be described to
include the tumor location (or tumor bed), and the lymphatics included)
• Did or will the patient have surgery or chemotherapy?
• Describe the patient position and any immobilization device used. Give a rationale for the
patient position and any device(s) used.
• What is the prescription for radiation treatment (fractionation, boost (integrated or
separate), total dose to the volume or point)?
• Organs at risk found in or near the treatment area should be identified and the total dose
reported. Use a table (example below) to list typical organs at risk, critical planning
objectives, and the achieved outcome. Please provide a reference for your planning
objectives.

Organ at Risk (OAR) Desired Planning Objective Planning Objective Outcome

• Planning techniques chosen (3D conformal with different beam arrangements, static
IMRT, VMAT, etc.)
• Planning Process (contouring, optimizer constraints, isodose coverage, plan normalization
etc.).
• Treatment outcome (OAR dose reporting table, plan evaluations, etc)
• Rationale behind final treatment choice (discuss similarities/differences between the two
techniques as well as advantages/disadvantages).

Grading Expectations:
Your evaluation will have a heavy emphasis on the description of the planning process, the
technique, and your evaluation of the outcome. Do not provide extensive information about
adjuvant treatments; simply state if the patient is undergoing, has had, or will have, surgery or
chemotherapy. Essentially, this is your time to demonstrate and explain those planning concepts
that might be hard to elaborate in written format. Use screen shots of your planning process to
help explain your thought process. Please follow the rubric carefully to make sure all required
components are complete.
Discussion Forum Peer Review:
For the peer review portion of this project, you will review each of your group members’ projects.
Watch their presentations and come up with questions or give them a suggestion for a change (ie.
"Did you try this?" "A neat trick I learned was this, have you tried something similar?", etc).
Presenters: It is your responsibility to answer the questions asked about your plan study within
the designated timeframe. Peer questions and feedback should be completed by the specified due
date in your syllabus. Please do not alter your assignment based on peer review; simply make a
mental note of planning suggestions for any future treatment design.
