1.JUNE MONTHLY MEETING. The Monthly meeting is scheduled for June 28 at 6pm at the Alabama State Black Archives & Museum on the campus of Alabama A&M University. Once you are at the Chase Road or Meridian Street entrances ask the security officer for a map/instructions to the State Black Archives. The meeting will take place on the 3rd floor. 2. WELCOME NEW & RETURNING MEMBERS. New: Partners in Prevention, NUCOR Steel Decatur. 3. FEMA. We had the opportunity to meet with FEMA representatives in May. Businesses interested in doing business with FEMA should contact the Business Transition Team representative, Khadijeh Abdullah (contract specialist) via khadijeh.abdullah1@dhs.gov or (940)368-0054. 4. MEMBER Events/News: Lets help one of our own! At the May meeting we announced that we were accepting donations assist member Stephanie Booker of Professional Carriers of the South. As some of you know she has been fighting ovarian cancer. Donations will be used to help her to pay co-pays during her visits to the doctors. We want to pass the collected funds to her after the June meeting. Please bring donations to the June meeting or drop them off at the NAAACC office. Effective fall 2011 semester, students enrolled in th Automotive or Heating and Air Conditioning programs at Drake State Technical College will have the option to pursue an associate degree. 5. DID YOU KNOW? The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) is offering the V-WISE program for FEMALE VETERANS desiring to start their own business. Applicants must have served in any branch of the military during any era. Participants must be able to complete the on-line component of the program and be able to travel to one of the mandatory conferences held at various times from spring 2011 through fall 2013. Admission is on a rolling basis. The Operation Endure and Grow program is a new on-line training experience focused on the fundamentals of launching and/or growing a small business, offered by the Whitman School of Management in cooperation with the SBA. The 8-week training program is open to National Guard and reserve members as well as their family members. The cost for the program is $75. 6. OPPORTUNITIES: Madison County is implementing a new bidder registration system. The system went live on APRIL 1, so businesses and organizations interested in contract opportunities should register as soon as possible. To register go to www.ebidexchange.com/madisonco. The National Black Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual convention in Miami FL July21-23. Network with firms and key government personnel from the U.S. and the world. The Huntsville Housing Authority (HHA) is seeing proposals and statements of qualifications from professional contractors to treat for termites in the Northwoods housing development.
