The charts show information about teenagers reading habits in the UK in 2016.

The first tell


us the favorite genres by gender and the second one gives information about how many
books read per month. Overall, girls and boys liked reading a lot of different genres. In some
genres has the same taste but in others had a lot of difference. With regard to how much to
they read we can see that the majority of young people read at least one book a month.

Looking at chart 1 more closely, we can see that fantasy and adventure were preferred by 56-
60 percent of boys and girls. Science fiction, humour and mystery were also liked by a fairly
equal number in both sexes, the difference is like 5-2 percents. Boys liked this gender slightly
more than girls did. However, other genres showed clear differences. Girls read romance
stories considerably more than boys. 50% of girls liked romance while only 5% of boys read
romance. Clasic literature is not nearly as enjoyable for boys as for girls, 25 percent of girls
liked classic literature and 10 percent of boys liked. The reverse situation was found with
war/spy and sports stories. Boys likes war/spy stories more than twice as much as girls, while
30 percent of boys liked sports stories only 10 percent of girls liked this stories.

Encouragingly, figure 2 shows that about 85% teenagers people in the UK read regulary. A
third part of them read one book a month. A fairly large number read 2-3 books per month.
After that, the number of readers become progressively smaller, only 7 percent of teenagers
read 4-6 books per month. However, 10 percent of teenagers read more than six books per
month.
