Looking at chart 1 more closely, we can see that fantasy and adventure were preferred by 56-
60 percent of boys and girls. Science fiction, humour and mystery were also liked by a fairly
equal number in both sexes, the difference is like 5-2 percents. Boys liked this gender slightly
more than girls did. However, other genres showed clear differences. Girls read romance
stories considerably more than boys. 50% of girls liked romance while only 5% of boys read
romance. Clasic literature is not nearly as enjoyable for boys as for girls, 25 percent of girls
liked classic literature and 10 percent of boys liked. The reverse situation was found with
war/spy and sports stories. Boys likes war/spy stories more than twice as much as girls, while
30 percent of boys liked sports stories only 10 percent of girls liked this stories.
Encouragingly, figure 2 shows that about 85% teenagers people in the UK read regulary. A
third part of them read one book a month. A fairly large number read 2-3 books per month.
After that, the number of readers become progressively smaller, only 7 percent of teenagers
read 4-6 books per month. However, 10 percent of teenagers read more than six books per
month.
