Sensation and perceptions are linked but, what are they and what makes them different?

will answer these questions in the first paragraph, but before that we have to know what is sense?

Some people got their five sense organs while some people lack some of these sense organs.

There are also people who have them, but they have no use of them. For example, some people

who have hearing problems, it could be because they were born weak, or it could be that they

have lost them in accident. The five-organ sense play a very important role in our daily life as

well as our sensation and perceptions. In this essay, we will talk about the different between

sensation and perception, and how perceptual experience affect our interpretations of the world

around as. As well as how my perceptual set create prejudice.

What does it imply to sense something? “Sensory receptors are specialized neurons that

respond to specific types of stimuli,” (Harcourt, 2020). Sensation has arisen when sensory input

is sensed by a sensory receptor. For starters, light entering the eye induces chemical changes in

the cells which cover the back of the eye. Such cells relay signals in the shape of action

possibilities (as we heard while researching biopsychology) to a central nervous system. The

transfer from sensory input to action potential is recognized as transduction (Privitera, 2020).

Since primary school, we already learned that we have five senses and they are vision, hearing,

smell, taste, and touch. It points out that they oversimplify this idea of five senses. We do have

sensory systems which provide knowledge on balancing which is the vestibular sense,

positioning and motion of the body, pain, and temperature. Although our sensory receptors

gather input from the atmosphere on a daily basis, it is essentially how we perceive the

knowledge the determines how we communicate with the world. Perception relates to how

sensory input is processed, perceived, and experienced actively (Harcourt, 2020). Perception

requires both the perception from the ground up and from the top down. “This is when we build

up to perception

from the individual pieces,” (Privitera, 2020). In the other side, our information accessible, our

perceptions and our opinions affect how we perceive certain sensations. It is recognized as top-

down processing. So, the main difference between sensation and perception will be the feeling

that begins with specific receptor cells found in our sense organs. Once these sensory organs

sense sensations which they are light, mechanical stimulus, chemical molecules, they turn them

into neuronal impulses (potentials of action) which are transferred to our brain. Then the brain

gives significance to this tactile input called experience, because feeling will first arise in order

to be in harmony with our perceptions.

When it comes to our views of the environment around us, we might believe that what

we see is what we receive. In fact, though, evidence indicates that the way we have seen the

world is highly affected (and prejudiced) by our own previous perceptions, aspirations, desires,

values, emotions and even society. Consider of the last time we accessed a new class, for starters.

Would we have any aspirations at the beginning that could have affected our class experience?

When we consider a lecture to be dull, are we more likely to be disinterested in the classroom? It

is what is recognized as a cognitive collection of psychology. A vision collection is essentially a

propensity to perceive items just in a certain manner. Perceptual sets may influence how we

perceive and react to the environment around us and can be affected by a variety of different

variables. Perception may often be affected by the desires, motivations and preferences of the

person. The word 'perceptual set' relates to the propensity to view events or circumstances from a

different frame of reference," says Sandra Hockenbury, writer of the textbook Exploring

Psychology (Harcourt, 2020). Perceptual sets may be useful often. They sometimes guide us to

draw reasonably accurate assumptions as to what continues to exist throughout the world around

us. For situations where we consider ourselves mistaken; we sometimes create new perception

sets which are more reliable. However, often our perception sets will cause us to be astray.

My Motivation may play significant role in perceptual sets and how I perceive the

environment around me. If I am embedded in my favorite soccer team, I may be inspired to see

leaders of the opposing team as too violent, frail, or incapable. While expectations often have

significant part to perform. For instance, When I expect people to act in some ways in some

circumstances, such assumptions can affect how I view certain individuals and their positions.

However, the two that have immense impact on me would be my culture and my emotion.

Culture influences how I view individuals, artifacts and circumstances. Interestingly, scholars

have shown that people from diverse backgrounds also seem to view perceptions and context

signals differently. On the other hands, emotions will have a profound effect on how I view the

environment around me. For starters, if I am mad, I may be more inclined to be aggressive to

others. One analysis found that as people began to equate incomprehensible syllable with slight

electrical impulses, they had physiological responses to the syllable even though it was

introduced subliminally. These perceptual sets have influenced the way I act or think, and

sometimes it will led me to be more biased against those who I dislike or those who my family

and friend dislike.

In short, in this article, I talked about the distinction between sensation and perception,

and how visual knowledge influences our perceptions of the environment around us. Including

how my visual environment induces discrimination. In the first paragraph, I explained the

difference between sensation and perceptions, what they are, how does it work and the impact it

has. While in the second paragraph, I talked about how perceptual sect influence our view of the

world and the situations we are faced with and how we react to it. Finally, I talked about my
