Assignment 5: CIFAL Webinar

This CIFAL Webinar presenting the theme Our Planet, Our Seas: A Deep Dive
toward Sustainable Development Goals is about the environment, the seas, and
ultimately, people that are in the frontline of the effects of the topic. The webinar
shown that we are facing a significant number of interrelated crises at the global and
regional levels, for which we need alliances and coalitions more than ever. And they
mention that they are hoping that this administration will take action in such
environmental problem we are currently facing ;they believed that this is the time
for partnerships, so I think it's very strategic of the organizers to link the protection
and conservation.
One of the speaker stated that we already have evidence of interconnection
between Philippine inter-island waters and the West Philippine Sea. The
environmental conditions in the WPS and even the kit area or the southern portion
of that may also be key indicators of overall health and sustainability of Philippine
waters and he implies that if we see these areas are as representative of particular
conditions in particular parts of the Philippines, then we should establish baselines
for those areas. We cannot simply achieve this on paper we actually have to have
monitor also.
If plans that have dived into this webinar is actually implemented, it would
be an important contribution not just for improving management of Philippine
waters. Knowing what we have, what we own, and what is our entitlement is crucial
because, as you know, when we are not actively engaged in a region, it may
sometimes open up space for encroachment from outside, which is a sad reality. The
fact that other nations in our neighborhood, you know, actually have more capacity
gives them a slight advantage, especially when they have an aggressive desire to
expand their own jurisdiction and influence in the region, so the capacity to
consistently demonstrate interaction with our own resources strengthens both our
presence and our suffering.
Finally, our country as they try to imply need to be able to agree on some
sort of non-prejudicial clause non-prejudicial arrangement and stewardship activities
that everyone should agree to allow within the south china sea and west philippine
sea for the long-term benefit of all. Probably lastly, I would like to point out that we
need to do this urgently and we need to start. Concluding the part of the very lesson
that has broaden my perspective on this topic is that we already have 2016 arbitral
ruling that in fact is favor of the Philippines. However, we still now are having this
talk about our rights on our own land. My hopes are with the professionals that are
talking on this area of topic that are hoping that this administration will atleast do
something to protect our land. This administration is not what I expected to have in
the next years but I guess let just hope for the best in our nation.
