NEW DELHI: The government on Monday said around 3.2 crore cases were pending in high
courts and subordinate courts across the country while 56,383 cases were pending in the
Supreme Court.

It also said 74% of the total 3.2 crore cases were less than five years old. Similarly, 20,334 out
of the 56,383 pending cases in the apex court were less than one year old.

Replying to a question in Rajya Sabha, law minister Salman Khurshid said government was

He said while the time taken in disposal of pending cases was "exclusively within the domain of
Subordinate Courts
the judiciary", the government had taken a number of measures, including setting up of a
Pendency
'National Mission for Justice Delivery and Legal Reforms' to facilitate expeditious disposal of
cases.

In order to computerise the justice delivery system, the government is implementing e-Courts
Project for the district and subordinate courts and upgradation of ICT infrastructure in
superior courts at an estimated cost of Rs 935 crore.

"The target is to computerise 12,000 courts by March 31, 2012 and 14,249 courts by March
2014," Khurshid said, adding that a pendency reduction drive was launched (July-December
2011 period) by the department of justice.

Replying to another query, Khurshid said that consequent upon increase in filing, disposal and
pendency of matters in the Supreme Court, there was an increase in the workload at all levels.

He said the competent authority had sanctioned creation/revival of about 284 posts in different
categories since January 2009. Further, a committee of three senior officers was constituted to
study the working of the Registry of the Supreme Court.

That is NOT funny Sir. 26% cases i.e 80 Lac cases are more than 5 Years old. Think about those
80L families ? Think abut those criminals (out of these 80L) who are freely roaming outside ??​ ​
WHat was this number when u took over as law minister ??​ WHat have u done for these 3.2 crore
families ??​Only lawyers are filling their pockets and may be ur pockets too !!​
People are loosing
patience and will not tolerate this any more.​ ​
Boss do something about it or resign from ur Job !!
