Describe economic development and its common indicators? Explain other indicators of
economic development used specifically in Malaysia?
1. Sustained, concerted actions of policy makers of country and societies that promote the
standard of living and economic health of a specified area (4 marks)
2. Common indicators: Gross Domestic Product (GDP), literacy rate, health, life
expectancy, employment opportunities, education, a rise in productivity, etc. (8 marks
with explanation)
3. Malaysian indicators: distribution of income, reduction in the incidence of poverty,
standard of living, quality of life, balanced development between Peninsular Malaysia,
Sabah and Sarawak, plus sustainable development (8 marks with explanation)
