2022 GKS-U Important Notice For Successful Candidates of 2nd Round Selection (University Track)
2022 GKS-U Important Notice For Successful Candidates of 2nd Round Selection (University Track)
Dear Selected Candidates of the 2022 Global Korea Scholarship Undergraduate Degree Program,
Huge congratulations to you all who made through the second round of 2022 GKS-U!
We ask all selected candidates of the 2nd round whose names are included in the attached result to
carefully read the following information and take appropriate actions.
All candidates whose names are listed in the 2nd round result must conduct a medical checkup from a
licensed doctor or a physician at a local hospital and submit an Official Medical Examination AND a
laboratory evidence (result of your examination) officially issued by a hospital or a medical clinic.
All 2022 GKS-U scholars who pass the final round will take a one-year mandatory Korean language
training at a Korean language institution. The language institution will be announced with the final
result and will be indicated on the invitation letter that you will receive from NIIED. Please note that it
is NOT POSSIBLE to change the language institution. Each scholar is assigned to a language institution
1
based on one’s country of origin and Korean language proficiency so that the diversity is represented in
each institution.
<Exception>
GKS scholars who have valid TOPIK level 5 or 6 will be exempt from the language training program and
start their degree program in March 2022. If you have attained TOPIK level 5 or 6 after you have
submitted your applications in October or if you have already received TOPIK level 5 or 6 but did not
report your scores to us, please inform us by submitting the scanned copy of your official certificate to
NIIED.
* The 78th TOPIK score is the last TOPIK score one should report to NIIED for exemption from the
Korean language program. Candidates who achieved TOPIK level 5 or 6 after application deadline must
submit the valid TOPIK certificate to NIIED by December 22nd (Korea Standard Time). If you have
already submitted your TOPIK certificate at the time of application and if there is no change to your
TOPIK level, you do not have to re-send the certificate.
How to submit
- Save a scanned file of your TOPIK certificate into a PDF file and name it into a following
format: [Your Candidate Number]-TOPIK. Please limit the size of the file to less than 5
MB.
How to submit: Attach Medical and TOPIK(* if any) file to a single email with a subject line, [Your
Candidate Number]-[Country]. Please do not include any other text.
For example, a candidate from Korea should attach his [2022U-UNI096]-Medical and [2022U-UNI096]-TOPIK files
in a single email with the subject line, [2022U-UNI096]-[Korea].

3. Additional Document Submission
(For ALL selected candidates of the 2nd round)
For those of you who were expected to graduate at the time of application or applied with a
provisional graduation certificate (ex. Secondary education exam certificate, letter of expected
graduation, etc.), you must submit your official graduation certificate by February 28th, 2022 to GKS
Center, NIIED.
ATTENTION!!
For those of you who cannot submit official graduation certificate by December 22nd, 2021:
Candidates who applied during their final semester and candidates who applied with a provisional
graduation certificate (ex. Secondary education exam certificate, letter of expected graduation, etc.)
will be announced as Conditional Successful Candidates in the Final Announcement.
If such candidate is exempt from a language program, his status as a GKS scholar will be automatically
put on hold until August 31st, 2022 unless he submits his graduation certificate by Decmeber 22nd, 2022.
However, if he submits his graduation certificate by February 28th, 2022, his scholarship will be

ATTENTION!!
For those of you who cannot submit official graduation certificate by February 28th, 2022:
If you cannot submit your official graduation certificate because your school is either closed,
postponed the issuance of the documents, or because you were not able to complete your curriculum
due to circumstances beyond control (e.g., COVID-19), your status as a GKS scholar will be deferred
until August 31st, 2022. This means that you will be given a grace period of 6 months to receive the
official graduation certificate instead of being disqualified from the scholarship.
If you belong to this case, you must contact the university you applied to and file your scholarship
deferral BEFORE YOUR ENTRY TO KOREA.
Once you enter Korea and if you cannot submit your documents by February 28th, 2022, your
scholarship may be subject to cancellation, and return to your home country on your own expense. If
there is any scholarship provided, you will have to pay back the cumulative scholarship amount.
Note: We will announce the final results in late-December. However, even after a candidate was
announced as a final successful scholar but if a scholar is found to be disqualified or an application
document of a scholar is discovered to be a fraud, we may cancel the scholarship at any time.
Sincerely,
GKS Center, NIIED
