E. Materials: Video clips, laptop, projector, lecture notes
III. PROCEDURE: (DISCOVERY LEARNING)
Day 1
A. EXPLORE
1. Guess Who
Students will be given an activity sheet.
 Let the pupils search for the meaning of the highlighted word by looking at
some words in the box
 Ask the pupils about the habitat of the different animals.
2. Description Wheel
Let the pupils describe a forest through a description wheel diagram
 Write a term in the center of the description wheel diagram.
 On the spokes of the wheel, write some words describing the term. You can
include a definition and examples
 Use as many spokes as you need.

FOREST

Ask: WHAT ARE THE THINGS THAT WE CAN GET FROM THE
FOREST?
B. FIRM UP
1. Picture Analysis
 Present a picture of forest with plants and animals on it.
 Have them list down the different thing they can see in the picture.

Let the pupils distinguish the biotic and the abiotic components using a two-column chart.
Biotic Abiotic

2. The teacher will have a 10-minute input about the lesson

3. Socialized Discussion
a. What are the components of the forest ecosystem?
b. What kind of forests do Philippines have? Why?
c. What are the components of tropical rainforests?
d. What are the layers of tropical rainforest?
e. Why do animals live in the different layers of the forest?
f. What is the importance of a forest ecosystem?
C. DEEPEN
1. Application
 Have the pupils apply their knowledge through the following activity
a. Write a descriptive essay on the present situation on our tropical
rainforest. (Analytical)
b. Draw the ecosystem where you belong. Identify the different
components of your ecosystem. (Practical)
c. Make a poster of a rainforest ecosystem you visited. Write a short
description about it. (Creative)

Day 2

A. EXPLORE
Activating Prior Knowledge
1. Clustering
 Let them group the animals based on their own category/groupings.

Goat Cow Duck Pig

Crocodile Cheetah Chicken Lion
Human Carabao Rabbit

 How did you group the animals? What is your basis of groupings?

B. FIRM UP
1. Song or Rap

And return nutrients to the soil.
2. Organizing Data
 Have the pupils identify the organisms mentioned in the song. Ask them to
arrange the organisms from producer to the order of consumers using a
sequence diagram.

Ask them what illustration is formed and let them describe the food chain.
3. Using the Graphic Organizer
 Present pictures of different organisms like plants and animals that live in a
forest.
 From the listed animals on the board, have pupils create 3 or more food
chains.
 Ask pupils to put arrows from the organisms in one food chain to the
organisms in the other food chains to form interconnected food chains.
 Ask pupils what diagram they have formed.
 Let pupils discuss the food web and how different organisms interact with
each other.
4. Socialized Discussion
 What are the different symbiotic relationship?
 Which relationships are favorable? Harmful?
 Which is the best type of symbiotic relationship?
 How does the interaction and interdependence of organisms important in
their survival?
 How do living and nonliving things interact with each other in the
ecosystem?
C. DEEPEN
1. Using the Venn Diagram
 Ask the pupils to summarize the concepts of the lesson through a Venn
Diagram comparing Food Chain and Food Web

Food Chain Food Web
