CMIT 382 Microsoft 365 Tenant Configuration

1. Change the tenant name from mercuryusa.onmicrosoft.com to

mercuryusa.com.

According to Alex Shteynberg, the current Principal Technical Architect at

Microsoft (2021), the tenant name you choose when enrolling in Office
365 is permanent and cannot be changed. Each tenant's name is unique
in Microsoft's global cloud service; in other words, no two tenants can
have the same name and only uses one format for tenants, which is
"TenantName.onmicrosoft.com" (Shteynberg, 2021).

Therefore, considering that Microsoft 365 only uses "one" format for
tenants (TenantName.onmicrosoft.com) changing Mercury USA’s
current tenant from mercuryusa.onmicrosoft.com to mercuryusa.com
is not impossible.

2. Microsoft DNS servers to host the zone name

All resource record sets within a hosted zone must have the hosted
zone's domain name as a suffix. Mercury USA is presumed to have
already purchased a domain from a third-party hosting provider. As a
result, the company could set up their domain in Microsoft 365 because
they will want their services like email using its domain name. Mercury
USA can do this simply by verifying their domain and then change the
domain's nameservers to Microsoft 365, so the correct DNS records can
be set up (Pebaum, 2020).

3. Explain the nature of at least one user account that will have
global administrator rights for the Mercury USA tenant.

Two to four global administrators are recommended. We suggest that

you have at least two global admins in your company in case of account
lockout since only another global admin can reset a global admin's
password. However, since the global admin has almost unlimited access
to the settings and much of the data, it's suggested that Mercury USA
have no more than four global admins, as more poses a security risk
(Kweku, 2021).

4. Users who have left the organization still have Microsoft 365

licenses while the new employees do not.

The employees who have left the company must be blocked from
accessing Mercury USA Microsoft 365 data. This will prevent those who
no longer work for the company from accessing their Microsoft 365
mailbox and data. Most importantly, even though a former employee has
been blocked, the company is still responsible for their license and must
be removed from Mercury USA Microsoft's licensed subscription (Kweku,
2021). Then, the easiest way to add user accounts for those new
employees is to add them one at a time in the Microsoft 365 admin
center. Once added, your users will have Microsoft 365 licenses, sign-in
credentials, and Microsoft 365 mailboxes.
