Emergencies and disasters can occur at any time. It doesnt necessarily take a major disaster to critically impact your life, family and property. Preparing helps to reduce the impact of any emergency. To prepare financially for emergencies: Get your finances in order: Emergency savings: emergency savings should be able to cover one to three months of your monthly bills and debt payments. Living within your means: Not spending more than you make is a fundamental aspect of good personal financial management for every season and reason. Keep your credit in check: Keeping your debt level low and maintaining a good credit history can help to prepare you for any emergency. In an emergency, your credit might be needed to evacuate, replace damaged or lost belongings, or cover short-term lodging. Schedule a financial consultation and free credit check with an FFSC Personal Financial Specialist, at 504-678-7569. Do a home inventory: Take an inventory and keep a copy of the list somewhere safe. Photos or videos of each room and its contents will help you to settle a claim in the event of a loss. Additionally, make a list of the make, model and serial numbers for appliances and electronics.

Check your insurance policies: Life, health, auto, homeowners, and renters insurance products are all designed to protect you from losses you cannot afford to cover yourself. When you complete your inventory, check your insurance policies to make sure that you have adequate coverage. Pack your grab and go kit: Have your financial documents organized so that you can quickly assemble important documents in case of an evacuation. Always keep a small amount of cash on hand. For additional information on preparing for disasters financially, contact our Personal Finance Specialists. Financially, you can never be too prepared!

NEW PARENT SUPPORT PROGRAM

Are you expecting and/or the parent of a baby < 3 years of age? The New Parent Support Specialist at the FFSC provides: We all experience ups and downs in life. But sometimes, despite our best efforts, things heat up. Those are the times that just about anyone could use help coping. Stress is kind of an emotional overheating. It can be caused by such things as family hardships, marital conflicts, parent/child issues, money concerns, frequent moves, health and environmental factors, and other difficulties. Single Service Members may feel extra lonely and isolated when everyone else seems to be having fun. Often, talking with an experienced counselor can help cool things down. The FFSC offers counseling by professional, licensed clinicians. Or, you may want to attend our two-hour Stress Management Workshop. And if things in your relationship have already heated up to the point that family members are hurting each other, or at risk for doing so, counselors or the Domestic Abuse Victim Advocate can help with that, too. Let one of them explain the option of Restricted Reporting which allows you access to information, support, advocacy, medical care, and counseling without command or law enforcement notification. Contact the FFSC today to schedule a personal counseling session or register for a workshop at 504-678-7569. Were here for you!
