ABSTRACT

The CoVID-19 pandemic is a major threat to one's health and has harmed all aspects of life. The discovery of different
vaccines to combat this pandemic has brought a glimpse of hope for survival especially in the field of health. However, not all
embraced the positive impact of the vaccines. A survey conducted by the Social Weather Stations showed that 66% of adult
Filipinos are willing to get vaccinated against SARS-CoV-2, whereas 31% claim that they refused to be vaccinated due to
Dengvaxia controversy. The purpose of this descriptive-quantitative study was to establish the elderly's opinion of vaccination
efficacy, the hurdles involved in vaccine reluctance, and whether there is an association between the elderly's
sociodemographic profile and vaccine acceptance. The study obtained the population of the elderly from the barangay and
used Slovin's formula to calculate the sample size. According to the findings of the survey, more respondents are willing to take
the vaccination than those who are opposed to it. The most common barrier to vaccination acceptance is respondents' concern
of the vaccine's negative effects as a result of its quick release following the rise of CoVID-19, followed by the existence of an
underlying condition and the use of maintenance drugs.

INTRODUCTION RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

The CoVID-19 caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus which
originated from Wuhan, China alarmed people all over the
world for many reasons, mainly due to the sudden
uncontrollable outbreak. According to South China Morning
Post, 266 people had been infected before the beginning of
2020. One reason for the mass' fear was the possible danger
it may pose to an individual, which is unknown other than it
can spread from person to person through aerosols, direct
contact, and fomites. In addition to these, according to a
statement of a state-sponsored Xinhua News, the virus stays
on surfaces for a long period of time. Due to the virus'
virulence and rapid transmission across the world, the
outbreak escalated into a pandemic.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM RESULT AND FINDINGS

What were the perceptions of the elderlies about the

efficacy of the vaccine?

What were the barriers of vaccine acceptance based on: FIGURE 4. TOTALITY OF ELDERLY'S
- Influence? ACCEPTANCE TOWARDS COVID-19
- Knowledge about vaccine and its side effects?
VACCINE ACCEPTANCE
- Elderly’s health condition?

Was there a significant relationship between factors

affecting CoVID-19 vaccine acceptance and the

sociodemographic profile of elderly people?

CONCLUSION
The succeeding conclusions stated are based on our FIGURE 5. SUMMARY OF ELDERLIES’
gathered data: REASONS ON TAKING THE VACCINE
The total respondents who are hesitant on taking the
vaccine is lower than those who are ready, and the sole
reason of the respondent’s hesitancy is due to having side
effects and not guaranteed its efficacy.
Some of the possible barriers in the hesitancy of the
respondents are the presence of an underlying disease
and influence by the opinions of people surrounding the
respondents such as children, doctors, peers.
The data gathered proves that there is no significant FIGURE 6. SUMMARY ON

RECOMMENDATION
Based on the findings and conclusions, the researchers hereby

propose the following:

1. To employ a stricter margin of error for a bigger sample size

for the sake of finding a better correlation.

2. To have a better and particular survey to get the desired

FIGURE 7. MEAN AVERAGE THAT
responses from the subjects of the study.
HINDERS VACCINE ACCEPTANCE
3. To have a better correlation between the socio-

demographic profile- gender, annual income, age of the

respondents and the factors that affect the acceptance of

the vaccine.
