to that consumer electronic, and the technology we developed at CaPs is at the heart of consumer electronic

2______________ The room I found myself in was very large and high. The windows were long, narrow,
and pointed, and a great distance from a dark apartment that was completely inaccessible inside. The fain
light of the red light of the club passes through the concentrated pans, and served to distinguish enough of
the brightest objects around; the eye, however, struggled in vain to reach the far corners of the room, or the
edge of the curved and distressed roof of the house. Dark cloths hung on the walls. Ordinary furniture wa
extravagant, luxurious, antique and durable. Many books and musical instruments were scattered all over the
place, but they failed to give strength to the scene. I felt I was breathing a spirit of grief. “A spirit of darkness,
deep and unforgivable, hung over everyone.”

3_________________When students complete their assignments, they click the Mark “As
done” on button letting their teacher know that they have finished. Note: The teacher does not
receive an alert or email notification when work is turned on by the students, or marked as
done. If a student is turning in late work, it is recommended that when the student finishes their
work they should leave a comment for the teacher on late work or some other special
circumstances.

4--------------------If you choose to use your position and influence to raise your voice on behalf of those who
have no voice; if you choose to point not only to the powerful, but also to the weak; If you keep the power of
self-reflection in the lives of those who do not have your own benefits, then not only will your proud families
celebrate your existence, but the billions and millions of people you have helped change their reality. We do
not need magic to change the world with all the power we need within us: we have the power to think better. “

5_____________ The lights grow brighter as the earth lurches away from the sun, and now the orchestra is
playing yellow cocktail music, and the opera of voices pitches a key higher. Laughter is e
minute, spilled with prodigality, tipped out at a cheerful word. The groups change more swiftly, swell with new
arrivals, dissolve and form in the same breath; already there are wanderers, confident girls who weave here
and there among the stouter and more stable, become from a sharp, joyous moment the center of a group,
and then, excited with triumph, glide on through the sea-change of faces and voices and col
constantly changing light.

6____________________It’s been almost ten years since I first ran for political office. I was thirty-five at the time,
four years out of law school, recently married, and generally impatient with life. A seat in the Illinois legislature
had opened up, and several friends suggested that I run, thinking that my work as a civil rights lawyer, an
contacts from my days as a community organizer, would make me a viable candidate. After discussing it with
my wife, I entered the race and proceeded to do what every first-time candidate does: I talked to anyone who
w ou ld list en. I w ent t o blo c k c lub mee tings a nd c hurc h s oc ia ls, bea ut y s hop s a nd bar bersh ops . I f t
were standing on a corner, I would cross the street to hand them campaign literature. And everywhere I went,
I’d get some version of the same two questions.

7________________________ All toilet flush tanks work about the same. When the toilet is flushed, the trip handle
lifts the tank ball, opening the outlet and letting water flow into the bowl. When the tank is nearly empty, the
ball falls back in place over the outlet. The float falls with the water level, opening the water-supply inlet valve
just as the outlet is being closed, and the tank is refilled through the filler tube. Water also flows through the

bowl refill tube into the overflow pipe to replenish trap-sealing water. As the water level in the tank nears the
top of the overflow pipe, the float closes the inlet valve, completing the cycle.

by immigrant families who strengthen communities through civic partic
economic activity. The United States must continue to welcome new arrivals and help those who already here;
otherwise, the country will lose the advantages it has over other industrialized countries who compete against
us in the global marketplace and seek to recruit from a vast pool of unskilled and skilled global workers.

9____________Sunset is the time of day when our sky meets the outer space solar winds. There are blue,
pink, and purple swirls, spinning and twisting, like clouds of balloons caught in a whirlwind
moves slowly to hide behind the line of horizon, while the moon races to take its place in prominence
atop the night sky. People slow to a crawl, entranced, fully forgetting the deeds that must still be done.
There is a coolness, a calmness, when the sun does set.

10____________On July 16, 1969, the Apollo 11 spacecraft launched from the Kennedy Space Center in
Florida. Its mission was to go where no human being had gone before—the moon! The crew consisted
of Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins, and Buzz Aldrin. The spacecraft landed on the moon in the Se
Tranquility, a basaltic flood plain, on July 20, 1969. The moonwalk took place the following day. On July
21, 1969, at precisely 10:56 EDT, Commander Neil Armstrong emerged from the Lunar Module and took
his famous fi rst step onto the moon’s surface. He declared, “That’s one small step for man, one g
leap for mankind.” It was a monumental moment in human history!

were sitting there right next to me. I never became great friends with Karen, but after lunch that day, it
seemed like all sorts of people were happy to be my friend. You cannot convince me that Karen did not
know what she was doing. I have a great respect for her, and I learned a great deal about what it means
to be a true leader.
