In case emergency power is available, the emergency mains performance of this connection should also be
measured.
5. MAINS PROBLEMS
The room mains conditions and room mains performance must meet the specification of the local Philips
organisation.
If the specification can not be met the hospital must be informed about the possible consequences.
Consequences can be e.g.:
• reduced X-ray tube power
• reduced image performance
• reduced reliability
• reduced performance during emergency power.
Some problems can be solved with a dedicated mains conditioner, but keep in mind that these can have a bad
influence on the performance of the equipment.

NOTE
The number of fixing blocks that was delivered with the system (8) does not necessarily match the number of
connection points between struts and ceiling rails. The maximum distance between the struts for monitor-rails
is 1371 mm, assuming that fixing blocks are attached at each connection point between struts and rails.
Philips
Maximum unistrut pitches were calculated for the worst case scenario: two Monitor Ceiling Suspensions with
six CRT monitors each, attached to one set of ceiling rails. If struts are positioned closer together than
specified, it is not necessary to add fixing blocks at each connection point.

2 INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
Bring the two boxes with ceiling carriage and monitor ceiling suspension into the room.
If the width of the (highest) box for the ceiling suspension is too large to fit through a door, first
remove the top and side covers of the box.
Check whether all indicated items are present in the two boxes for ceiling carriage and monitor
suspension.
See for further instruction pages Z-1.1, Z-1.2 and Z-1.3.
(2) If elevator is too small, proceed with following steps; otherwise continue with
action (3).
Remark: If the MCC is too voluminous for transport via staircase, take out 1 rail
according following procedure. If not, proceed with step (3).
Z-1.1 (2.a) Mark the position of the bearing boxes with a pencil (Do not scratch!).
Loosen the screws at the inside of the bearing box
(4 screws at each box per rail).
Remove the endplates and take out transversal carriage
(if necessary remove the end stop).
Turn the lateral carriage, so the J-profile is pointing up.
Take out 1 J-profile carefully. Do not damage!
(2.b) Transport the MCC via the stairs.
Philips
(2.c) Put the bearing boxes with J-profile on 2 tables, at marked positions
(distance between 2 boxes is ... mm).
Remount J-profile carefully. Do not damage!
(3) For position of MCC: stop block must point to doctor's side
(see proposal at '8'and '9'.
Remark: Distance from end-of-rail to wall must be 60 cm at least
(room necessary to bring in the MCC)!
In case the Rails for MCC ends more close to the wall, then
you must lift the MCC from the center of the room; the Larc
rails should not be mounted yet in case you use the
supplied hoist with stool, because the steel cable will be in
conflict then with the rail!
(4) Put the beam with pulley into the clip rail (wood extending 150 mm).
(5) Mount the hoist to the stool.
(6)
(7) Route the steel cable through the hole of the hoisting device and unwind the
cable.
Then route along through the 2 pulleys, like has been shown in the drawing
and fix the cable eye to the second lifting device.
Raise MCC up to approx. 1 m above floor level.
(8) Mounting the support pipe:
NOTE: In case of long support pipe, see paragraph 33.1
monitor.
(11) Mount the fixed cable hose carrier to the end stop near the endplate.
In case the roomheight differs from 2700 mm, you must adapt the delivered long pipe by sawing and drilling
to get the specified viewing height of 1650 mm at the center of the screen of the lowest monitors. See Figure
Philips Medical Systems: DECLASSIFIED Customer Service Intellectual Property
1
If not, proceed with step (2).
1650 mm
Z-1.2 (2) Position the pallet under the transversal carriage of the MCC.
Remove the brackets.
Remove the wooden plates.
Remove package boxes from the pallet.
(3) Mount the bracket for the hoist.
Mount the hoist (3x M10x20).
(4) Remove the 4 bolts that fix the bracket to the frame.
Philips Medical Systems: DECLASSIFIED Customer Service Intellectual Property
(5) Mount the end stops, check the complete movement of the MCC
(free and smooth running).
(6) Position the lifting bar support blocks on the J-profiles.
Position the lifting bars at the support blocks.
(7) Route the steel cable according the drawing.
Fix the cable to the bracket.
Wind the cable so the tension is just on!
Remove the beam at the rear of the suspension frame.
Remove the pallet with the frame.
(8) Raise the monitors by winding the hoist, till it meets the pipe.
(9) Mount the pipe to the yoke:
− 4x M10x50 with the (double) Nord-Lock washer
(in case of 3,4 or 6 Monitor suspension)
− 4x M10x.. with the (double) Nord-Lock washer
(in case of 1- or 2-Monitor suspension)
Mount the safety bolt M8 with Loctite 243 in the center of the 4 M10 bolts.
CAUTION
In case you have an optional colour monitor (MCD21) at the (top) right side of the 3-, 4- or 6-fold Monitor
Suspension (or at a separate (second) Monitor Ceiling Suspension) it is only allowed to connect the 4 supplied
coax cables to an IEC601-1 approved product!
(Note that the video cable consists of 4 video cables (RGB and Sync))
________________
Route the cable hose via the clamp at the suspension tube and via the
cable carrier(s) to the cable support at the end of the MCC J-profile. From
Philips
here the cable hose goes with a drape of 2250 mm (or less, depending on
outlet position) to the ceiling outlet (see also page Z-2.1 of the Unit manual).
In case of add-on cable hose this hose must be fixed to the 2nd cable clamp
at the support pipe with cable length of 800mm for 1-, 2- or 3-fold Monitor
Suspension; in case of 4- or 6-fold Monitor Suspension cable length must
be 500 mm.
In case of 3- and 6-fold suspension version) it must also be connected to
the yoke, see Figure 5, Figure 6 and Figure 7 and page Z-1.4).
Figure 5: Fixation at yoke with add-on cable hose Figure 6: Fixation to the support pipe
Philips Medical Systems: DECLASSIFIED Customer Service Intellectual Property
Then you must fix the hoses to the cable clamps of the cable carriers (2 in
case of 4- or 6-fold Monitor Suspension) and the end fixation, see Figure 10
and Figure 11 and page Z-1.4)
Mount upper ring of add-on cable hose with cyl. screw M6x16 to cable
support scale (see Figure 10 and Figure 11).

NOTE
The cable outlet has been supplied with the Ceiling Rails MCC.
________________
(4/5) Route the cables for the Examination light and for ‘X-ray on’ light via the top
of the J-profile to the Examination light bracket (see page Z-1.3).
Connect the cables to TF-X1 and TF-X2 in the bracket.
Put the remainder of the cables in the MCC bearing box or run them back
via the cable hose in the cable duct.
Route the cables via cable outlet and cable duct to the cabinets.
NOTE
In case of a cable hose drape problem, cut the tiewrap at the splitting of the cable hose (see page Z-1.3) of
the longitudinal carriage. Adapt the position of the cables in the hose by pushing and pulling. Route the
remainder of the cables in the cable ducts. Tie again with tiewraps.

NOTE
Only for SRC tube a SRC balancing unit is required (see figure 7). In case of SRC the symmetry coil is already
mounted on and connected to the H.T. tank.
To be able to connect the cables from the generator to the H.T. tank, remove the cover of the symmetry coil
and temporarily remove the mechanical connections (Nr. 6) Do not remove the electrical connections (Nr. 5).
________________
NOTE
________________
If present, mount the load unit counter according to your latest room layout and connect its cable(s) to the
generator.
Connect all cables according to the delivered wiring and earthing diagram:
- mains supply & earthing
- load unit counter
- SDL & signalbus cables
- tube interface cables (HT cables & rotor control cables & tube overload temp contact)
NOTES:
. Mind that the H.T. cables, on the H.T. tank side, have to be winded with earthing wires, connected to the
cable sleeves of the H.T. cables and earthing bar of the H.T. tank (see fig. 9).
. Several cables require specific ring cores (see table on next page for correct details)
. Insure that HT cable pins are spread properly
. Check oil level in wells
Covers:
- mount the front panel and connect the earthing wire to GX1201
- Put HT tank and generator cabinet on its final position (wheel locking screws unlocked??)
- in seismic areas mount the bracket on top of the generator cabinet and fix it to the wall.
Philips
Ring cores
Ringcores have to be added in inter-cabinet cabling (they had to be taken out to avoid damage during
transport). Handle the ringcores carefully as they are easily damaged e.g. when you drop them. Refer for
position, ringcore type, the number of windings and general ringcore fixing/mounting instructions to the figures
and tables listed below. The number of windings is equal to the number of times you have to pull the
cable through the ringcore.
Philips Medical Systems: DECLASSIFIED Customer Service Intellectual Property
The factory labels the ringcores (including the number of windings required) and tie-wraps them near to the
location were they have to be be used. In the generator cabinet they are ty-wrapped to the mounting strips
(probably in the lower part of the cabinet).
Philips
Generator
cabinet
In case of MRM tube, the ringcore is already implemented in the rotor control unit and does not have to be
added during the installation.

1. INTRODUCTION
This module contains information on how to install a DSI (with included parts) delivered in a pre-mounted
system. In pre-mounted systems it remains necessary to connect cables from / to the DSI Control Cabinet.
Installation of the equipment must comply with all local regulations and with instructions described in this
module.
WARNING
Philips Medical Systems: DECLASSIFIED Customer Service Intellectual Property
1. During the installation, the power of the generator and II/TV subsystem must be switched off at all
times
2. Do not mount anything in the free part of the DSI cabinet. It blocks the forced airflow and can cause
overheating problems.
3. Do not put anything on the top of the DSI cabinet. This will block the forced airflow and can damage
the electronics inside the cabinet. The distance between the top of the cabinet and the ceiling must
be at least 50 cm.
Philips
2. TOOLS
Refer to Section A of the Combined Unit manual or the PRB manual for a preferred room layout. Take the
cable length into account. All cables are 20 m long, except:
− Leave space to move the Control Cabinet approximately 0.75 m forwards for service purposes
behind the cabinet (to slide the MD-unit from the rack/to move the cabinet from the wall).
− The forced cooling inlet/outlet may not be disturbed.
Important!!
• The power from the hospital mains must be the same phase as the TV-Chain.
• In the input voltage (phase) line (from hospital mains to DSI) a fuse must be installed. The fuse type
depends on the DSI input voltage.
15A = Fuse fact active; Bussman KTK 15A (4522 086 00546)
8A = Fuse fact active; Bussman KTK 8A (4522 086 00544)
A fuseholder (Bussman HPF) can also be ordered (4522 092 00025)
Philips
The optical disc (only present for the DSI non-PRO as an option) is delivered separate from the DSI cabinet
to avoid damaging. Therefore optical disk has to be installed in the field. To install the optical disc, the
following procedure must be carried out:
- Remove the front- and left rear cover from the DSI.
- Connect the power- and flatcable (BPN:X1 and BPN:X2) to the optical disc drive (at the left side of
the coding field).
- Mount the optical disc drive with four screws [M4 x 8], washers and spring washers to the
Philips Medical Systems: DECLASSIFIED Customer Service Intellectual Property
mounting plate.
- Mount the front cover to the DSI and position the optical disc drive in the front cover at the same
time.
- Fasten the mounting plate with two screws.
To accomplish the connection to the DSI system an IR-receiver is needed which must be mounted overhead
to the ceiling. The mounting location must be chosen so that there are no other devices in the beam between
the viewpad and the receiver. The receiver must be insulated from the ceiling itself.
The Hard Copy Unit (LHCU) must be placed outside the examination room in an X-ray free environment.
NOTE
Philips Medical Systems: DECLASSIFIED Customer Service Intellectual Property
The redundant cable length hanging on the back of the 40E cabinet may not influence the
airflow in the 40E cabinet.
The cabling on the back of the 40 E cabinet have to be connected to the following units:
- II / TV cabinet
- User Interface
- IR-receiver.
- Slave monitor
- DSI power and earthing.
The cabling of Reference monitor, Examination monitor, Ethernet connection, HCU etc. have to be
connected/mounted to the 40E cabinet in the field.
For all cable connections refer to cabling diagram into the System Manual Installation.
The 40 E cabinet must be mounted to the room wall when the installation of the DSI is ready. See drawing
BZ-1 for the correct mounting method.
The buttons ΑH≅ and ΑM≅ on the DSI Viewpad (See Quick Reference Cart / Operator manual) are
configurable under TCOP.
See the Test and Diagnostic manual; Section 5 ΑConfiguration≅ for the default Viewpad configuration. The
TCOP configuration page can be found under path: Run Configuration Misc
For the DSI R5.2 PRO and PROVASCULAR button “I” is for run flagging.

A part of the Remote Service kit has already been mounted in your system. Because of that you only have to
mount the modem and the cables between the cabinets. The cables for Remote Service are drawn (together
with all other cables) on the 'CABLING DIAGRAM' present in this SMI.
Because of local circumstances (one or more rooms connected to the Modem) it is not possible to give you the
appropriate installation instructions for the Modem and/or Room Selector. So if you have a Multi Room Selector
(more than one room connected the modem) you have to use the instructions in the binder:

1. INTRODUCTION
Although you have a pre-mounted system, one adjustment must still be carried out. This module describes
this remaining adjustment.
2. REQUIRED EQUIPMENT
The following tools are required to setup the HCU.
Philips Medical Systems: DECLASSIFIED Customer Service Intellectual Property
• Standard toolset
• Service PC
• RS-232 serial interface cable (flat cable)
• Densito meter
3. ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURES
3.1. GENERAL
NOTE
Ensure that the DSI and HCU are at working temperature for at least one hour.
The film processor must also remain at a constant temperature.
Refer to the MATRIX manual of the PMI-11RC for adjustment and calibration of the PMI-11RC. For Laser
cameras, adjustment and calibration must be carried out by the LHCU manufacturer's service engineer.
NOTE
3.2. ADAPTATION OF THE DSI TO THE HARDCOPY UNIT (VALID FOR ALL CAMERAS):
• Start SERVICE mode on the DSI.
• Start TSW on the service PC.
• Select: Run ADjustments Hardcopy INitialisation. The system asks: Overwrite old lut? (yes/no,
default is no).
• Enter: Yes. The existing LUT parameters are overwritten by a linear LUT.
* Develop the film and measure the 16 grey levels (for measuring points, see Figure C-2).
NOTE
Philips
The test pattern used for this adjustment is placed in the first DSI memory space. The result is that
INFORMATION IS OVERWRITTEN (deleted).
* Fill in the measured grey levels in the density table (Table 1), in column 1.
NOTE
Philips Medical Systems: DECLASSIFIED Customer Service Intellectual Property
Make sure that the density steps between the measuring points in the white range are at least 0.05,
otherwise the HCU needs to be re-adjusted.

NOTE
After the highest density value has been entered, the system displays the following message:
• Enter density value for measuring point 2. Repeat this until measuring point 16 is reached.
The system displays the following message:
If after the fill-LUT procedure, the software detects that the contrast range is limited in the high or low
densities, the DSI generates an error message.
Remedy when a LHCU is present, let the LHCU be adjusted by the LHCU service engineer.
Remedy: repeat the fill-LUT procedure from and enter the correct values.
Philips
NOTE
If LUT fine tuning adjustment is not carried out, some contouring effects may sometimes become visible on
the hard copies. It is therefore recommended that this adjustment be executed at least twice.
After each sequence: "MAke_copy" and "Fill_LUT" (in DSI the test software), the DSI LUT table matches the
Philips Medical Systems: DECLASSIFIED Customer Service Intellectual Property
corresponding calculated LUT densities more closely. Stop this procedure when improvement is no longer
attained.
Procedure:
• Select: Run ADjustments Hardcopy Densities.
The service PC displays the calculated values:
• Enter density value for measuring point 2, repeat this until measuring point 16 is reached.
The system displays the following message:
After the lowest density has been entered, all entered densities are displayed,
together with a message:
• Repeat this procedure at least once from the beginning of this procedure.

NOTE
* Use this procedure only if the customer is not satisfied with the image quality on the film.
In all other cases, curve `0' is default; this is the standard PHILIPS curve.
* Ensure that this adjustment is carried out after the HCU installation/calibration.
Philips Medical Systems: DECLASSIFIED Customer Service Intellectual Property
Procedure:
• Start APPLICATION mode on the DSI.
• Make some CLINICAL images or retrieve from a optical disc (if present).
Wait for the customer to make these clinical images.
• Choose which image to use, to let the physician make his choice of LUT.
• Start SERVICE on the DSI keyboard.
• Start TSW on the service PC.
• Select: Run ADjustments Hardcopy IMage_select.
• Enter: 0, 1 or 2 (0 = previous image, 1 = current image and 2 = next image).
• The selected image is displayed on the monitor.
Concerning image quality, it is recommended that the LUT fine tuning procedure be repeated (already
carried out). Refer to the LUT fine tuning adjustment procedure for the complete procedure, (see paragraph
3.3).

Test pattern Gray step

After HCU LUT adjustment, fine adjustment and LUT selection (see previous paragraphs), it is still possible
that the HCU is not optimally calibrated. To test this, the HCU test pattern (see Figure 2) contains two
detailed contrast areas marked "A" (see Figure 4).
Philips Medical Systems: DECLASSIFIED Customer Service Intellectual Property
Each detailed contrast areas (bright and dark area) contain four contrast boxes "B" (see Figure 4):
Procedure:
* Start SERVICE mode on the DSI.
* Start TSW on the service PC.
* Enter: Run ADjustments Hardcopy MAke_copy.
. If remote control HCU: the hardcopy unit automatically makes a film full of exposures from
the (adjusted) HCU-LUT test pattern (see Figure 1).
. If no-remote control HCU is present, make manual exposures of the test pattern (1 film full).
* Develop the film.
* Put the film on a light-box.
* Check that all eight contrast boxes are visible in the detailed contrast areas on the hard copies.
If the boxes are not all visible, the HCU is not optimally calibrated and must therefore be optimised;
proceed with next fine-calibration procedure.
If the boxes are visible, the procedure is complete.
LHCU:
Contact the relevant Laser HCU manufacturer's service engineer.
Philips
NOTE
The HCU test pattern also contains two bars (at the top and bottom of test pattern) where the density
smoothly increases/decreases from bright/dark to dark/bright. If the pattern does not merge smoothly, there
is a fault in the HCU.

Carry out this procedure only in case of a system with a DSI in combination with a LHCU or VHCU.
________________
_____ Disconnect the wire between the Protective Conductor Bar (PCB) and the Philips Protective
Conductor Bar (PPCB).
_____ Measure the insulation resistance between the two bars with the Multimeter. This insulation
resistance must be > 1 M ohm (see figure 1)
_____ Measure the insulation resistance between the two bars again with the insulation resistance
tester (see figure 1).
ohm
Figure 1
Note: 1.In case the measured value is not according to the specification, the mains has to be
disconnected completely to investigate if a resistance between the neutral and protective
earth in the system circuitry is the cause of the low insulation. The mains circuitbreaker
does not disconnect the neutral.
2.During installation it is advised to connect the EGAD-tool between the Protective Conductor
Philips
Bar (PCB) and the Philips Protective Conductive Bar (PPCB). An alarm sounds when the
conductivity becomes less than approximate 100kOhm.
The monitoring EGAD-tool detects immediately accidental earthing of systems during
installation. Do not use the EGAD-tool when power is applied to the system.
