Clean India Green India: your ideas on how to

strengthen India’s fight against climate Change

Cleanliness is next to Godliness. This proverb very clearly conveys the significance of clean lines in our
lives. If we maintain cleanliness, we are very close to God as it makes our surroundings livable by
minimizing the threats of harmful bacteria and ill-health. A clean surrounding is not only a must for a
healthy life but a treat for our eyes also. With the increasing population, advancing technology and
industrialization, the waste generated is humongous posing a threat before humankind. Effective waste
management is an essential demand of the hour. If we succeed in implementing a clean India, we will be
the beneficiaries; our coming generations will be able to live in purer and healthier environment. This
will be our best gift to them, as well as us. If we fail, the gradual degradation will result in annihilation of
the entire human race. May that day never come.

Human activity is the main cause of climate change. The impact of humans on the long term
changes in climate dynamics, scientists have been ringing alarm bells for more than a decade. All
evidences lead to the conclusion that our species, the human species, is polluting the atmosphere at
such an extent that the climate is changing in a drastic manner. It has been obvious, summers are
getting hotter, winters are getting colder. It is evident that the climate is changing, for the worst and we
are the culprit.

Global warming is one of the MAIN causes of climate change. The goal is simple. Carbon dioxide is
the climate’s worst enemy. It’s released when oil, coal, and other fossil fuels are burned for
energy—the energy we use to power our homes, cars, and smartphones. By using less of it, we
can curb our own contribution to climate change while also saving money. Core to all
climate change solutions is reducing greenhouse gas emissions, which must
get to zero as soon as possible. Because both forests and oceans play vitally
important roles in regulating our climate, increasing the natural ability of
forests and oceans to absorb carbon dioxide can also help stop global
warming. The main ways to stop climate change are to pressure government
and business to
Keep fossil fuels in the ground. Fossil fuels include coal, oil and gas – and
the more that are extracted and burned, the worse climate change will get.
All countries need to move their economies away from fossil fuels as soon as
possible
Invest in renewable energy. Changing our main energy sources to clean and
renewable energy is the best way to stop using fossil fuels. These include
technologies like solar, wind, wave, tidal and geothermal power
Switch to sustainable transport. Petrol and diesel vehicles, planes and
ships use fossil fuels. Reducing car use, switching to electric vehicles and
minimizing plane travel will not only help stop climate change, it will
reduce air pollution too
Reduce Plastic. It doesn’t break down quickly in nature so a lot of plastic is
burned, which contributes to emissions. Demand for plastic is rising so
quickly that it will contribute to global carbon emission about more than
17% by 2050.
Reduce water waste Saving water reduces carbon pollution, too. That's because it takes a
lot of energy to pump, heat, and treat your water. So take shorter showers, turn off the tap while
brushing your teeth and switching to water efficient fixture and appliances about 100 million
kilowatt-hours of electricity per year would be saved—avoiding 80,000 tons of global warming
pollution
