World Music Day (21st June), Sangeet Natak Akademi
is presenting Jyotirgamaya- a festival to showcase the
talent of rare musical instruments from across the
country, including street performers, train entertainers,
performers attached to temples, etc.,
Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav is an initiative of the Govern-
ment of India to celebrate and commemorate 75 years
of independence and the glorious history of it’s people,
culture and achievements.
WEAVING JAMDANI
It is a cotton brocade characterised by floral patterns,
jamdani is a light and translucent fabric.
In 2013, UNESCO added jamdani weaving to the Rep-
resentative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of
Humanity. The fabric also received the Geographical
Indications (GI) tag in Bangladesh in 2016.
Jamdani weaving is believed to have emerged from the
Dhaka muslin industry, with both plain and decorative
motifs emerging during the reign of Muhammad bin
Tughlaq (1324–51), with the arrival of Persian crafts-
men to India.

It is part of an effort titled Seismic Microzonation,
which aims to generate vital geotechnical and seismo-
logical parameters for developing earthquake risk resil-
ient building design codes for structures and infrastruc-
tures. Specifically, it has initiated actions for the setting
up of an earthquake early warning system (EEWS) on a
pilot basis for a small area in the Himalayas.
Jammu and Kashmir is the westernmost extension of
the Himalayas. Udhampur district lies between the two
major seismogenic faults — namely the Main Frontal
Thrust (MFT) and the Main Boundary Thrust (MBT) —
which are among the potential factors for generating
earthquakes in the J&K region.

UDAIPUR’S ‘BIRD VILLAGE’ IS SET
TO BE DECLARED A WETLAND
Recognised as the “bird village” following communi-
ty-driven conservation efforts, Menar in the Udaipur
district is set to be notified as Rajasthan’s new wetland.
This will pave the way for getting the Ramsar site status
for this rural heartland of the Mewar region.
At present, Rajasthan has two wetlands recognised as
Ramsar sites – Keoladeo Ghana in Bharatpur district
and Sambhar Salt Lake in Jaipur district.

ghalayanus.
The present discovery is the first report of a thick-
thumbed bat not only from India but also from South
