Photosynthesis

 Definition of photosynthesis
 Word equation
 light independent and dependent stage of photosynthesis (dark or light stage)
 Importance of photosynthesis
Leaf structure
 Identify the main tissues in a leaf
 Adaptations of leaves for photosynthesis
 Fate of glucose in leaves
 Describe the intake of carbon dioxide (gaseous exchange) and water by plants (Transpiration)

Definition of limiting factors

 discuss light intensity, carbon dioxide concentration and temperature as limiting factors
on the rate of photosynthesis

Mineral requirements:
The importance of nitrate ions and magnesium ions
Explaining the effects of mineral deficiencies on plant growth

Practical:
Test of starch in a leaf

BEGIN:
1) LIGHT - DEPENDENT STAGE
2) LIGHT - INDEPENDENT STAGE
INTERNAL STRUCUTRE OF LEAF:

Upper Epidermis:
1) It lacks chloroplast
2) Involved in water conservation
3) A single layer of cell
4) Uppermost layer of leaf
5) Outer wall is covered by a waxy sunstance known as cutin
Cuticle:
1) It is a waxy substance
2) It covers upper epidermis
3) Protects plants from drought
Palisade Mesophyll :
1) lies below upper epidermis
2) It contanins many chloroplasts
3) Columnar in shape
4) No air space in between
5) They are well absorber of light
Spongy Mesophyll:
1) lies below palisade mesophyll layer
2) Air space in between
3) Contains less chloroplasts in comparison of palisade msedophyll layer
4) Irregular in shape
Lower Epidermis:
1) Consist of stomata and guard cells
2) It is a single layer of cell
3) Involved in gaseous exchange
4) lowermost layer of leaf
5) Its outer wall is covered by a thin layer of waxy sunstance known as cutin

Vascular Bundle:
Consist of Xylem and Phloem tissue

Xylem:

Xylem transports water and mineral salts from the roots up to other parts of the
plant

Phloem:

Phloem transports sucrose and amino acids between the leaves and other parts
of the plant.

Stomata:

1) Guard cells control the opening and closing of stomata through regulation
of water potential within themselves.
2)
