Guidelines For Cleaning of Quenching System
Guidelines For Cleaning of Quenching System
Air quenching system in Lofil machine is responsible for cooling and solidifying the extruded polymer
filaments. It helps to develop structural changes in the fibres and mechanical properties of the yarn.
Quench chamber delivers the cooling air in quench zone at temperature of 12-130C, air temperature is
Quench system comprises air blower, cooling coil, ducts, quench mesh and perforated sheets.
A non-woven filter also installed on quench fan inlet, ensuring delivery of dust free air for quench. This
filter needs to be cleaned or changed at regular interval for proper functioning of quench system.

QUENCH FAN
A dirty air mesh/filter restricts the flow of cold air, causing insufficient cooling of filaments and issues in
yarn spinning process. Hence it is required to clean the quench system time to time. Cleaning of Air Filter:

Following needs to be taken care of while dismantling the Quench fan for cleaning-
Electrical connector should be opened before removing the fan and should be kept in dry place
Please ensure that fan is being handled properly during dismantling from cooling coil unit.
After cleaning and assembling the fan, please ensure that the connectors are reconnected
correctly as per ferule indication on wires as shown in below picture to avoid any fault. After
that it should be covered with insulating tape for protection.
Also need to be ensured that power & control connectors are not interchanged.

Due to dusty ambient, there is excessive dust deposited inside the fan blade which reduce air
suction to the quench system resulting yarn process problem starts due to insufficient cooling.
It must be disassembled so you can get to all the parts that need to be free of debris.
Take a bristle brush to scrub the fins/tubes, be careful not to damage the aluminium
fins. Spray water though it until the water runs clean. Can be washed with neutral
detergent.
2. Descaling of tubes:
This is performed once in a year, however in case of bad water quality, early cleaning is
recommended.
To clean the scaling formed inside the condenser coils, standard de-scaling procedure
Open the screw marked yellow in below picture to remove the whole perforated sheet
Now Will see the perforated sheet.
Cleaning is recommended once in a year however this duration may vary according
to site ambient condition. Wash with neutral detergent & water spraying. Wipe with a
soft cloth or brush & dry it completely before you place it back.
Quench Mesh:
To remove the mesh assy, open the hex head bots marked with yellow in below picture.
Wash with neutral detergent once after every 3 months, wipe with a soft cloth or brush
& dry with compressed air. However, the duration may vary according to site ambient
condition. Chocking of mesh depends on surrounding air quality.
It is advised to replace the filter mesh with new one after 6 months or when melt drop
has deposited on filter mesh surface and air flow is less.
Re-install the mesh assy with bolts as marked in below picture & make sure that it
is completely dry before you place it back.

De-scaling Procedure:
Pre-requisites:
1) Sulfamic Acid (H3NS03) - 20 Kg (comes in powder form)
6) If scaling Still remains , replace with fresh H3NS03 solution & repeat the above process.
7) Now clean the tank and fill with fresh water and add detergent.
9) Now replace the detergent water with fresh water & run the pump for one last time for final
cleaning.
10) Reconnect the Flexible Hose pipes to the cooling coil as earlier.
