In this study, the researcher developed a module for statistics and utilized it to 17
students during the first and second quarter of the academic year 2015–2016. In
addition to this, the researcher analysed the students’ performances. A validated
instrument about the evaluation of the proposed module was utilized. Parallel to this, a
survey was also done among Mathematics and Statistics and non-Mathematics high
school teachers to test the module’s validity.
The results of the study were summed up as follows. (1) It can be gleaned from the
results of the different indicators per characteristics of the module that it has a very
great extent. Each lesson in the module is accompanied by specific objectives and is
aligned on the curriculum, paragraphs/sentences on the module are grammatically
correct and the items in the evaluation activities cover the important competencies to be
developed. (2) After the utilization of the module, the students gained advance
knowledge in Statistics. (3) The characteristics of the developed module in terms of the
specific objectives, language used and evaluation activities have significant relationship
to the students’ performances. (4) When it comes to the acceptance of the developed
module, the result of the study suggests further evaluation.
Based on the results, it was concluded that the developed statistics module has very
high extent of validity in terms of specific objectives, its content, language used and the
evaluation activities. Also, the performance of the students has increased after the
utilization of the module. The performance of the students will also increase if they were
given a step by step procedure that is easily understood. Lastly, different learning
activities help students to understand the lesson being taught.
