ACADEMIC POLICY

1. It is the student’s responsibility to read the Level 5 Diploma Academic Policy and Procedures.

2. The student must submit assessment work and attend assessment events on the required dates
and/or venue.

3. If the student is unable to meet the deadline, he/she must notify the module lecturer and offer an
explanation together with supporting evidence, such as a Medical Certificate (MC).

4. If an acceptable explanation has been provided, an alternative assessment may be arranged.

5. Students who fail to submit their assignments/projects by the deadline will receive a penalty of
deduction of ten percent (10%) of their marks per working day, if no valid explanation has been
offered.

6. A student must not plagiarise or reproduce ideas, opinions, theories, formulas, graphics, or pictures
of another person without acknowledgment. Plagiarism will be penalised with a nil mark.

7. A student who has been found or reported to make no contribution in the case of continuous group
assessments will be penalised with a nil mark, at the module lecturer’s discretion.

8. Use a standard referencing system, such as the Harvard Referencing System, to properly
acknowledge any information that you have used in preparing your assessment work.

ASSESSMENT OBJECTIVES
The purpose of this assessment is:

1. To develop students’ skills in researching, analysing and interpreting complex data into a
presentable infographic for any audience.
2. To cultivate creative visual communication skills.
3. To enhance students’ skills in terms of technology and innovation.
4. Develop students’ research and public communication skills.
5. To deepen students’ knowledge and understanding of the topic covered.

INSTRUCTIONS
OVERVIEW

Infographics are visual representations of complex facts (e.g., knowledge, data, concepts, ideas, etc.).
This medium relies on visual features to transmit complicated information to varied audiences in a
simple and clear manner. Infographics combine evidence- and practice-based facts, compelling
statistics, easy-to-read fonts, complementary colour schemes, simple charts, and bold graphs, among
other images, to distribute information in a format that is quickly and readily digestible.

SAMPLE OF INFOGRAPHIC

REQUIREMENTS:

1. By using any appropriate software or application such as canva, MSword, visme, visualize,
Piktochart, etc) each student has to create an infographic based on any ONE of the chosen
topic below:

B. Fundamental principles of Insurance
C. Difference between Islamic Finance and Conventional Finance
D. Shariah Screening Methodology

2. Students are required to include the following information in the infographics:


• Title of poster
• Introduction: a brief summarization of the following topic. This should only focus on a
related topic only.
• Two examples: Provide at least two different examples relevant to the chosen topic
• Provide in-text citations and references. References should come from reliable resources.
Resources from Wikipedia, blogs and unreliable forums should not be used.
• Graphs and pictures if applicable.

ADDITIONAL INSTRUCTION:
• Size of the infographic: A3 portrait paper
• Student details: Full Name, Student ID, Group code
• Save your work file in .jpeg format according to your student ID, for example,
20FTB0001_.jpeg.
• Font should be readable and make usage of different colours to add contrast onto the
poster.
• Must be concise, well-structured and visually appealing.
• Avoid being too wordy.
• Use visuals aid such as graphics, pictures, charts, etc.
• Failure to adhere to these rules will result in the deduction of marks.

SUBMISSION

1. The submission must be done in printed copy (A3 paper) to the respective module lecturer and
softcopy to PBLMS by 4.30 pm on Saturday, 5th November 2022.

2. This assessment constitutes 25% of the overall grade for the module.

TOPIC GUIDELINES:
Based on the chosen topic, make a thorough research on the following components mentioned
below. However, do not limit yourself to these statements, you may include additional
research that is relevant to your topic.

Financial Risk in IFIs
• Identify at least two IFIs around the world.
• Analyse credit risk and liquidity risk in their financial statement.
• Comments on the risk management method used by the chosen IFIs.

Fundamental Principles of Insurance


• Identify the 6 legal principles of Insurance.
• Define each legal principle mentioned.
• State one or two real-life examples based on principles.

Difference between Islamic Finance and Conventional Finance


• Provide at least 3 differences between Islamic finance and conventional finance.
• Identify the financial systems used in Brunei.
• Classify the limitation of financial systems in Brunei.

Shariah Screening Methodology


• Explain the 2 types of shariah screening.
• Identify and explain the prohibited elements.
• Give examples of IFIs that you are familiar with (e.g., BIBD, Islamic Maybank).
