As part of the novel Sinigang, the main character, Liza, deals with the

subject of her father having an affair with Sylvia and having a son named
Lem. Liza and her Tita Loleng are making Sinigang for the family dinner
because it is her father's favorite dish.

Then she remembered the day she was in Bulacan, sitting on a sofa,
looking at Lem's white casket with flowers all over it. Then she was
astonished when Sylvia asked whether she was Liza. She examined Sylvia
from head to toe, describing her as a flawless woman and comparing her to
her mother before saying yes to Sylvia's question.

She regained her composure and responded to Tita Loleng's question, and
she immediately remembered how she met Sylvia, her father's mistress.
She felt anxious when she heard Sylvia's name, but she stayed calm and
raised her eyebrow. She was about to cry when Sylvia grabbed her arm
and knelt in front of Liza like a sinner confessing her sin, and she didn't
know how to react. But Liza is stoned-hearted, and she looks at Sylvia with
a straight face, and Sylvia looks at her and says that each of us is sinning.

Liza felt like she was in a soap opera with a terrible drama, and she was
looking around the room to see if anyone or anyone was there to see them,
but there was no one around the. When she stared at Sylvia, she wanted to
scream and shout at her to stop touching her and let her go, but instead,
she kept calm and pretended to agree with Sylvia. Until Tita Loleng informs
her that the tomatoes have been thoroughly washed.

Tita Loleng inquires about Liza's encounter with Sylvia after Lem died of
cancer while preparing and cooking. Tita Lolengs' questions about the
Sinigang-cooking method triggered flashbacks in the story, revealing vivid
memories of how Liza learned about her father’s other family and glimpses
from the past.
