We C U, ICfluencers
An Instagram page fully dedicated to ICfluencers; something I never saw before, until
I came across the Instagram page called @_we__cu_ (2021). This project caught my eye
because it is a concept that not only explains the circumstances in the healthcare sector but
also allows healthcare workers to tell their side of the story in comparison with tweets given
by the Twitter account @aboutanurse. The reason that I wanted to focus on this interesting
account is that I used to get lectures from an ICfluencer called @makesciencework when I
was studying for my bachelor’s degree. This experience resulted in interests and expertise in
this field.
Directly looking at the Instagram feed, there is a clear theme to be found. The colors
purple, green, blue, and red cover the feed, where there are three posts within one color: a
theme, a video, and a reflection. There are also two highlights added, and the description
gives clear information on what the account has to offer and where the focus is on. Looking
at the first impression critically, the color structure works well. Thereby the description gives
a clear view of the focus and aim of the Instagram account, which also helps the reader to
understand the content. It is also nice to see that healthcare workers are represented in the
content.
Looking at the content, posts use different ‘slides’ and have an in-depth caption
written out with more information on the theme. For further improvement, I would suggest
only choosing one particular content form to give in-depth information on the theme: post
with slides OR caption. To enhance the agency of readers and their engagement on
Instagram it is important to be clear on where the right information can be found. This
account gives a lot of information, which can be challenging for readers that are on the
short-content platform Instagram. It would be an idea to not add a long and in-depth
caption, and instead putting all the information in posts, while using slides (to make sure
that there is not too much text on one slide). Also, for audiences without the knowledge and
developed digital literacy on the platform, this could be an effective change to help them
understand how to read the content and where to find it.
Furthermore, this account shows that social media has an impact on the field of
healthcare workers. This can for example be seen in a video, where one healthcare worker
explains that ICfluencers can have a positive impact on the growth of students applying to
studies in healthcare. Livingstone and Lunt (2014) refer to this phenomenon as
mediatization, which is understood as the influence of media institutions on other fields of
social and institutional practice.
To conclude, this is an interesting Instagram account, with a lot of interesting
information. If you are interested in healthcare, ICfluencers, and the influence of media on
this field, then this Instagram account is for you!

3 highlights
A creative element I liked was from the website with the theme of Bridgerton
(Bronaghscanlan296.wixsite.com/my-site, 2021), where they added a Spotify playlist so that
the readers could listen to the Bridgerton music while reading through the content. I found
this element creative because it brings the reader into the ‘vibe’ of the series Bridgerton and
also influenced me into reading the content while enjoying the music.
A socially relevant element is added to the project of the housing revolt in Rotterdam
(Adelaacm.wixsite.com/website, 2021). This theme and the content described on the
website a socially relevant to citizens of the Netherlands who are looking for a house to live
in.
A thought-provoking element is added to the Instagram page of @_we__cu_ (2021).
Because of the representation and reactions of healthcare workers on tweets given by an
ICfluencer, this stimulates thoughts and opinions on the topic.
