Let’s Create Art

Emerging Artist Commission

Engage is looking to commission an emerging artist/illustrator/designer to create a

digital artwork for Let’s Create Art, an exciting new UK-wide campaign. We
particularly encourage expressions of interest from early-career practitioners who
identify as Black, Asian or Ethnic Minority, LGBTQ+, disabled or from a lower socio-
economic background as these groups are underrepresented throughout the visual
arts engagement and participation sector.

The Let’s Create Art campaign is a new initiative to support the visual arts
engagement and participation sector to champion the powerful and transformative
ways that art enriches the lives of our communities across the UK. The programme
includes professional development opportunities, creative bursaries, and a 2-week
campaign in October to raise the profile of innovative visual arts engagement and
participation practice. For our inaugural year, the campaign advocacy theme will be
‘art, health and wellbeing’.

Activity will take place online and in person in England, Scotland and Wales, with
creative bursaries targeted at localities identified as areas of low cultural
engagement.

This commission will enable us to spread the message of Let’s Create Art through a
design that communicates the campaign message and encourages everyone,
everywhere, to be creative. We are looking for a bold and inspiring design to use
flexibly across campaign materials and to create a strong visual identity for Let’s
Create Art.

The audience for the artwork will include arts organisations, artists, community
organisers and schools taking part in the campaign, along with communities, children
and young people participating in campaign activity across the UK.

The artwork should include the project title ‘Let’s Create Art’ and any imagery should
reflect some of the following themes, concepts and tone:
- Art can help us to recover, heal and transform ourselves and our communities
- Art can be an act of protest, and a way to create a better future.
- Everyone can be creative, and has the right to a cultural life
- Art can happen every day and everywhere

Engage will require the creation of colour and black and white versions of the final
artwork(s) in a suitable format to be included in an open access downloadable poster
for Let’s Create Art campaign activity organisers to promote their own events across
the UK. To create the poster, the commissioned artwork will be positioned alongside:
- Copy detailing the Let’s Create Art campaign dates, information for how to get
involved, webpage information
- Let’s Create Art campaign logo
- Poster copy (e.g. for activity organisers to detail their own activity title,
location, dates and times).
- Funder and partner logo’s
The commissioned artwork will also be used on Engage’s website, social media
platforms, within campaign materials and a final resource, giving full credit to the
artist. The artist will be asked to give permission for the artwork to be used in future
campaigns and activity.
