Experiment 1: Workflow of the experiment for Computer Aided Mine Design: Creating a brand new

drill hole database having attributes such as collar, lithology, assay and survey, unified and made into
a geological database

Objectives:

 Understanding of geology and structure of deposit - Resource Estimation (Quality and Quantity of
Mineraland Waste)

 Advanced Statistical Analysis of the Ore Grade and other attributes present in the rock

Deliverables:

a. Prior to ore body modeling, the various drill hole data such as collar, lithology, assay and
survey, needs to be unified and made into a geological database. However, before creating the
database, it is wise to view the raw EXCEL/csv files that form the drillhole data.

b. Upload the drill hole data in Surpac

c. Visualize the data and attach pictures of the drill holes

d. Apply styles on drill holes

i. Choose database>display>drill hole display style.
ii. Go to the work directory and expand the geology folder in the navigator.

e. Perform an advanced statistical analysis of the parameters

i. Make a histogram of Fe grade for different cutoff grades ranging from min to max
value of Fe at an interval of 10 (fore.g.40, 50, 60, etc.)

ii. Make observations on mean, median, mode of the histogram obtained

iii. Also determine based on the plot what should be the range for ore (low, medium or
high grade) and what should be the waste

iv. Similar observations can be done on Gangue (SiO2 and Al2O3) to see what is high
grade ore (high grade will have low gangue %)

Procedure in a flow diagram as shown below

Experiment 2: Workflow of the experiment for Computer Aided Mine Design: Compositing,
sectioning and creation of ore body 3D solid model

Objectives:

 Learn to fill a block model from drillhole data from a geological database.
 Calculating the volume of ore body, delineating zones of ore and waste in the 3d solid model

Deliverables
a. Composting:
It is the standard processing technique for regularizing the length or vertical height of the surveyed drill
hole samples. It involves the sample assay data combined by computing weighted average over longer
intervals to provide a smaller number data with greater length for use in developing the resource estimate.

Purpose of composting:
i) To distinguish between ore and waste minerals.
ii) Production planning and scheduling.

b. Section and digitizing the drill holes:-

i. Sectioning: This is providing a mirror image of drill holes when cut through, by a
plane.
ii. Digitizing: This is drawing outline of mineralization or ore trend. Section should be
made using both drill holes data and surface DTM in order to digitize the reserve
accurately.
iii. Enter the Section Definition Method, distance forward and backward of plane and step
distance in defining splicing planes width shortcut menu and apply
c. Solid validation report
i. Tonnage, volume of ore and waste description and detailed analysis
Note: This workflow demonstrates the steps in this tutorial. There are other ways to achieve a result
