LESSON
NAIL SHAPES
Nails extend into four general shapes. Before you start to perform on your
client’s nails, both of you should have concurred on the best nail shape. It
should follow that of the fingertips for a more natural effect. It is advisable
for people who perform work mostly with their hands to have a shorter nail
to avoid cracking and injury.
Types of Nail Shape
Oval
The narrow sidewalls of the oval create an
elegant shape for women. Oval shapes
commend both wide and narrow nail beds
and add length with a graceful tip.
Round
One of the most conventional shapes of the
bunch, the round shape is ideal for men and
those who like to keep short nails. This shape
is favorable for wide nails and gives the vision
of a thinner nail bed. File the side wall
straight like a square, and then round the
free edge into that perfect circle.
Stiletto/Point
Pointed nails are ideal for acrylic and nail
art designs, especially in Eastern Europe
and Asia. Although not recommended for
daily use, this extreme shape can lengthen
and extend the fingers. File the sidewalls
evenly
and tapered until you reach the desired tip.
Square Oval (Squoval)
Square
This shape is referred to as a vintage shape.
The square is ideal for larger nail beds (it
tends to make smaller nail beds look shorter
and wider).
