Feedback: areas of good practice

This is a good start to the course, Justine. You have written achievable aims and outcomes
and it is very clear what you expect the learners to be able to do by the end of the lesson.
Your CCQs are good: you’ve made a nice attempt at separating similar words like doctor
and nurse.

You’ve used an effective PPP structure with a presentation stage covering the meaning,
form and pronunciation of your target language. You work on students’ confidence with the
language throughout the lesson which is very good to see.

The lesson plan procedure is well written - you have written clear descriptions of what the
students will be doing as well as what you, the teacher, will be doing. It is easy to imagine
this happening in a real lesson. The timings are appropriate for the lesson. It is good to see
that you have used a range of interaction patterns - this will give students the opportunity to
work independently and with other students in the class too.

You have used a suitable range of relevant terminology to show that you have understood
the course material. Your rationale provides a detailed justification for your lesson.
Feedback: areas for further development
Your anticipated difficulties need some work. Consider:
● the target language (meaning, form, and pronunciation). For meaning, consider
words with similar meanings, for example doctor and nurse. For form, consider
words with silent letters, for example the ch in mechanic is different to the ch in
teacher. Students might spell this like mekanik. For pronunciation, consider how Chinese
students struggle with consonant clusters, such as dr in driver.
● the lesson: what happens if students struggle with the tasks? what issues might
students have with the production task for example?
● classroom management: consider issues you might have with a monolingual class
for example.

The production task is likely to be very challenging: it expects students to be able to talk
about the future. It also doesn’t necessarily require students to use the 10 words you’ve
taught, especially if they don’t want to do those jobs. Think of an alternative task where
students must use the 10 words they’ve learnt, such as a roleplay.
Additional comments

Well done. Good luck with the next part of the course.
