GUEST ROOM INSPECTION

Guest room inspection ensures that the desired results of an established cleaning system are
consistently achieved. The main purpose is to spot any cleanliness or mechanical faults that may
have been overlooked during the cleaning before the guest notices it. The supervisors keep in
mind that their last look will be the guest’s first look at the room. The trait of “eye for detail” is
the most important quality required to inspect guestrooms.

AIMS OF ROOM INSPECTION:-

-To check on the standards of cleanliness
-To check that all appropriate supplies are put in their respective places.
-To check that there is no maintenance faults in the room
-Check on any problem that may have been overlooked during the cleaning
-Diplomatic inspection programme can motivate staff.
-Identify special cleaning tasks and organize the work.

METHOD OF ROOM INSPECTION:-

Every room should be checked daily once, though in some properties rooms are spot-checked
randomly; by staff at supervisory level like floor supervisor. Each supervisor is responsible for a
certain number of rooms, and they should be aware of the physical status of the rooms. The
inspection is carried on in an anti clockwise or clockwise direction, moving from high to low
levels.

TOOLS FOR ROOM INSPECTION:-

 ROOM INSPECTION REPORT/CHECKLIST-Usually supervisors carry these

according to which the rooms are checked and updated. It also reports the
condition of furniture, fixture, and furnishing, appearance of ceiling, wall and
floor. These are lists which have all surfaces and articles mentioned, which
supervisors should check, with spaces for noting down the observations. The
more thorough the checklist, the more detailed is the inspection. They also have to
identify areas in need of deep cleaning.
 WHITE RAGGING TEST-This means checking the cleanliness of any area by wiping it
with white rag across to see the degree of soiling.

NEGLECTED AREAS TO BE OBSERVED IN ROOM INSPECTION:-

There are certain neglected areas in the room, which GRAs generally forget to clean. These are
specially checked by supervisors. These are referred to as Dirty Dozens. Some of these areas
