Know Before You Go

Logistics

Dates and Location ● Wednesday, July 6 - Friday, July 8

● Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center
● Grand Hyatt San Antonio

Daily Schedule

Breakfast and ● A grab and go breakfast will be available on day one only, at no additional cost.
Lunch ● Coffee will be available each morning.
● I recommend bringing your own lunch.
● Over 5,000 people will be going to lunch at the same time and restaurant lines
will be long.
● Lunch will also be available to purchase at both the Grand Hyatt and Convention
Center

Parking ● Carpool if possible.

● Arrive early to find parking
● Parking will be reimbursed each day.
● You MUST have a receipt in order to receive reimbursement.
● Valet Parking is not reimbursed.
● Ride Shares (Uber, Lyft) are not reimbursed.

Attendance ● Each participant is expected to attend the full three days of AVID SI.
● Attendance will be checked at your COPs and Site Team.
 BEFORE Summer Institute

Check-In ● You should have received an email from AVID Center with your AVID SI Checklist
(check your spam folder if you do not see an email).
● Avoid check in lines by printing your SI badge at home.
● Go straight to your Community of Practice location on Day 1 (only if you print
your badge at home).
● Your Community of Practice and Site Team locations will be listed on your badge.

Community of ● Check your badge to make sure you are in the correct COP (for example English,
Practice (COP) Math, AVID Implementation, etc.)
● If your COP is incorrect, stop by the help desk when you arrive at SI on day one
in order to be switched to the correct strand.

Digital Device and ● SI will be a blended learning experience.

Technology ● Be sure to take a laptop/chromebook (no ipads, tablets), charger, and

Prework ● Log into MyAVID to access your pre-work.

● Pre-work must be completed prior to the first day of SI.
● This video will show you how to access your pre-work.

DURING Summer Institute

Site Teams ● During days 1 and 2, we will meet as a district.

● NISD’s Site Team location: Grand Hyatt - Level 4 - Texas C

General Session ● Don’t miss the General Session on Day 2!

● One of our very own NISD teachers will be a featured speaker!

AFTER Summer Institute

Parking ● I will update this document with a click sheet on how to submit your
Reimbursement reimbursement claim.

CPE ● I check attendance on MyAVID and through the Google Form provided during our
Site team time to submit CPE hours.
● You will receive 17 hours for attending SI.
