(A) Hydraulic tank for the hoist and braking systems

(B) Hydraulic tank for the steering and fan drive systems

(G) Braking system

The machine has two hydraulic tanks. Tank (A) contains oil for the hoist and braking systems. Tank
(B) contains oil for the steering and fan drive systems.

On the 735, gear pump (14) for the hoist system, gear pump (17) for the fan drive system and piston
pump (2) for the steering system are driven by the torque converter.

On the 740, gear pump (14) for the hoist system, gear pump (17) for the fan drive system and piston
pump (2) for the steering system are driven by the engine.

Piston pump (2) is a variable displacement pump. The piston pump supplies oil to the steering system.
The output of the piston pump is controlled by load sensing pressure.

Secondary steering pump and motor (3) supplies the oil to the secondary steering system. The
secondary steering pump and motor, which is a gear pump, is driven by an electric motor which is
connected to the battery. The secondary steering pump and motor is activated if pressure switch (7)
senses a low pressure from piston pump (2) or if a switch in the operator's compartment is pressed.

The outlet ports of piston pump (2) and secondary steering pump and motor (3) are connected to
steering check and combiner valve (6). The steering check and combiner valve supplies metering
pump (8). The metering pump is a gerotor pump which supplies oil to steering cylinders (1). The
metering pump contains two makeup valves and two relief valves which protect the steering cylinder
lines and the steering cylinders. The metering pump rotates as the steering wheel rotates.

Gear pump (14) supplies oil to the hoist system. The gear pump is a fixed displacement pump.

Hoist control valve (12) controls hoist cylinders (11) and tailgate cylinder (10) (if equipped).
Counterbalance valve (9) (if equipped) ensures that the tailgate cylinder operates with the hoist
cylinders. The hoist control valve is operated by pilot pressure, which is supplied by the braking
system. The hoist control valve is electrically controlled. Relief valve (12b) limits the system
pressure.

Lowering control valve (12a) can be opened in order to connect the piston side of the hoist cylinders
to the tank. The lowering control valve is used in conjunction with the lowering procedure for the
body. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Lowering the Body with the Engine Stopped".

For 735 (S/N: AWR1-588) and 740 (S/N: AXM1-1182), suspension cylinders (22) are connected to
accumulators (21) which act as suspension springs. The suspension system is a closed system. The oil
is blocked by manual valves (19) and manual valves (20). The manual valves can connect the piston
pump for the braking system to the suspension system. The manual valves can also connect the
suspension system to the tank. The manual valves are used to set the ride height of the front
suspension.

For 735 (S/N: AWR589-UpB1N1-Up) and 740 (S/N: AXM1183-UpB1P1-Up), the suspension
cylinders are not connected to the hydraulic system. Each of the two suspension cylinders are filled
with nitrogen and each of the suspension cylinders form separate enclosed hydraulic systems. The
amount of nitrogen in each of the suspension cylinders is used to set the ride height of the front
suspension. Refer to Systems Operation, "Suspension System" and Systems Operation, "Suspension
Cylinder (Front)".

Gear pump (17) supplies oil in order to drive fan motor (16). solenoid valve (15) controls the fan
speed. The fan motor is connected to the cooling fan. Bypass valve (18) directs hot oil through the oil
cooler.

Gear pump (4), which is driven by the engine, drives gear motor (5). Gear motor (5) is attached to the
ATAAC fan.
