Answer 1.

1.

1- Objective of preparing house of quality

2- Customer requirements- what the customers actually want from the product
3- Weights are assigned to each of the customer requirements based on their importance to customers
4- Competitive analysis is done to identify how competitor’s product performs against each of the identified
product functionalities under customer requirements
5- Technical requirements are identified for the product
6- Relationship matrix is prepared between customer requirements and technical requirements of the
product. Each customer requirement is given a strong, medium & weak rating against the technical
parameter
7- Relationship among responses- how each technical requirement correlates with each other. What is the
type of corelation- positive or negative
8- Technical assessment of the competitors product
Name: Antesh Kumar Roll No. EPGP-13A-021
Subject: Quality Management Page No. 2

9- What are the final operational goals/ targets based on customer requirements. These are the final technical
requirements of the product that the product must satisfy in order to satisfy the customer needs.

2. In a relationship matrix, if there is a row with no marks in the row, this indicates that the particular
customer requirement is not influenced by any of the identified technical requirements of the product. If
there is a column with no marks, it indicates that the particular technical requirement does not affect any
of the customer needs directly.

3. If there are two design features that tend to support one customer requirement and oppose another
customer requirement, then this needs to be recorded in relationship among responses matrix and the two
design features will have a negative correlation among themselves. Also, how the relationship of design
features with each of these customer needs will be recorded in relationship matrix in scale of strong,
medium, weak relationship.

Answer 3

Objective I.

1) Histogram will be used.

2) The graphs are:

Frequency

Life of battery (hours)

Subject: Quality Management Page No. 3

Frequency

Life of battery (hours)

3) From above we can see that while the average life of battery for company x is around 4 (4.25 is the exact
figure) hours life of batteries of company Y is around 7 hours (7.45 is the exact figure). Therefore, the life
of battery of company X is significantly lower. However, we cannot infer anything about the
manufacturing process from this data except for the fact that the life of battery has almost similar
distribution for both company X and company Y.

Objective II- PDPC diagram is shown in next page

Objective III

1) P chart is drawn in the diagram. Sample size is variable between 50 and 60 and number of defectives is
being measured.
2) Proportion of defectives is the measure that has been plotted.
3) The process is in control since the proportion of defectives are within the upper control limits and lower
control limits
4) The central tendency of the manufacturing process is to produce 3% defective items or 3 defective items
per 100 items.
5) LSL= 49 mm, USL= 50.5 mm, avg= 49.9 mm, sd= 0.2 mm
The process is not centered since (USL-mean)/ 3*sd and (mean- LSL)/ 3*sd are not equal.

6) Cp= 1.25, Cpk= min{1, 1.5}= 1. The process is just capable since Cpk is 1 and Cp is 1.25.
