Synthetic Model

Lesson Title: Blood Pumping Through the Heart

Targeted Grade Level: 11th Grade

Academic Subject: Anatomy and Physiology

Lesson Goals:

The learner will explore the anatomy of the heart and how blood moves through
the different chambers

Lesson Objectives:

 The learner will be able to label and identify the chambers of the heart.
 The learner will be able to describe how blood moves through the heart.
 The learner will be able to identify which chambers in the heart carry blood
with oxygen and which carry without oxygen.

Materials/Resources Needed:

 Diagram of the heart on a sheet


 Names of the chambers of the heart on a sheet
 Blue and red crayons

Lesson Components:

The students will break up into groups they will each be given a diagram of the
heart sheet and a list of words sheet. The students will then first work individually.
They will then with the blue or red crayon draw arrows as to how they think the
blood would move through the heart. Then with the word sheet, they will put the
word in order as to how they think the order is in the heart. After this, once they are
done in the group they will have a discussion as to how they got their answer and
whom they think may be right or wrong, and why. Once the discussion is over the

teacher will then show them the correct answer and they can once again discuss
how close or far they were from the answer.

Evaluation:

The students will be evaluated by their participation in class and if they did both
sheets that were passed out at the beginning of the lesson.
