LOOKING BACK TO YOUR LESSON

Lets see if you can still remember our last lesson about PC Disassembly and
Assembly. In this Graphic Organizer List Down the steps as well as the things that you need
in PC Assembly and Disassembly.

BRIEF INTRODUCTION

Congratulations! Now that you are done in the basic hardware repair or the PC
Disassembly and Assembly,it is time to familiarize yourself in the intangeble part ot the
computer. It is now more clear for you that computer works as a system. Hardware alone
cannot do anything without the software since these are the instruction that tells what the
computer will do. Now is the time to familiarize and master the things that you need to
prepare in order to create the basic softwares that is needed after the PC assembly.

Activity 2: Things that I need to know in Storage Media

Objective: Name the following and compare its functions.
Material: Pen and Paper
Procedure: Identify the name of the following devices and its function vs the other devices
Device Name & Function VS Device Name & Function

6
Big Idea 1: Storage Media Device

Data needs a material on which to be

stored (called the storage media) and the device
recording the data onto the storage media is
called the storage device. These Devices are
used to store data such as programs that are not
yet need by the user of the computer. There are
fix storage media devices in the computer such
as Hard Disc Drive and Solid State Drives. They
are both used as storage devices but they differ in
capacity and performance. Just like in this
comparison. https://spyboy.blog/2018/11/09/whats-the-difference-and-which-one-is-good-ssd-vs-hdd/

We also have portable storage media devices

such as Cd, DVD, Memory Cards and
Pendrive/flashdrive. These are handy and easy
to use to store data. They differ in capacity and
performance.
These storage media are used in computer
system servicing in storing installers for easy
access.

Big Idea 2: ISO File

"ISO File" is a file that contains the complete image of a disc. Such files are often
used when transferring CD/DVD images over the Internet. Depending on who you're talking
to, "ISO File" may refer to all disc image files or only certain kinds.

"ISO File" is created by copying an entire disc, from sector 0 to the end, into a file.
Because the image file contains "cooked" 2048-byte sectors and nothing else. The name
ISO is taken from the ISO 9660 file system used with CD-ROM media, but it is known as an
ISO image which might also contain ISO image format UDF (ISO/IEC 13346) file system,
commonly used by DVDs and Blu-ray Discs.

7
To make an ISO image you need to have a ISO converter. There are are lots of
programs/softwares that you can choose from. One of the example is the PowerISO.
PowerISO can make an ISO file from a CD, DVD, or Blu-ray disc. PowerISO do a sector-
by-sector copying. All information in the disc, including the boot information, will be copied.
You can launch the iso maker using the main program or the shell context menu.

• Run PowerISO.
• Make sure to insert the CD/DVD of your OS in the computer
• Click "Copy" button on toolbar, then choose "Make CD / DVD / BD Image File..." from
the popup menu

• PowerISO shows ISO Maker dialog.

• Choose the CD / DVD driver which holds the disc you want to
copy.
• Choose the output file name, and set output format to ISO.
• Click "OK" to make iso file from the selected disc.

Usage2: Make ISO file using the shell

context menu:

• Open "My Computer" and select the drive which holds the disc you want to copy.
• Right-click on the drive selected, the shell context menu will popup.
• Choose the menu "Make Image File".
• The "ISO maker" dialog will display.

8
• Choose the output file name, and set output format to ISO.
• Click "OK" to start making.

Big Idea 3: Bootable Flashdrive/Pendrive using Rufus

Using the Rufus software, you can create a bootable flash disk installer
following the instructions:
1. Locate your Rufus software in your computer.

2. Double click the Rufus icon and a dialog box will prompt
you, be familiar with this, box, note that the device (or USB) has not
been detected yet, you have to insert a formatted USB flash disk
8GB or higher on the designated slot of your computer.

3. As you inserted your USB flash disk the device will be

detected including the capacity of the specified device,
you are NOT READY yet to click start as it is necessary
to locate the source of ISO file.

4. On the Create a bootable disk using...choose ISO Image.

9
5. You already have your destination device, now you
have to locate your ISO image file (maybe it is on your
desktop), click logo to select the source file.

6. Locate ex,
WinServer2008 ISO
image on your desktop or folder.

7.
Now your source ISO file is already detected, click START.

8. A warning message will prompt you...this will

format all data on your flash drive, click OK.

9. Now it is starting to format your USB device and

at the same time making it a bootable USB flash
disk

10
10. The bootable USB flash disk is already
completed, see completion bar, click
CLOSE.

11. Check the content of your USB drive containing the boot setup files, your USB device is
now ready to be used for installing a computer unit.

ACTIVITIES

Activity 3: ISO Image and Bootable Drive Steps

Objective: Identify the input and output devices of a computer
Material: Pen and Notebook
Procedure:
1. List down the steps in creating ISO image file and Bootable Flashdrive.
2. Using your pen and notebook, create a block diagram for ISO image and Bootable
flashdrive steps.

11
REMEMBER

Big Idea 1: Storage Media Device

recording the data onto the storage media is called the storage device.

when transferring CD/DVD images over the Internet. Depending on who you're talking to,
"ISO File" may refer to all disc image files or only certain kinds.

Big Idea 3: Bootable Flashdrive/Pendrive using Rufus

Rufus is a utility that helps format and create bootable USB flash drives, such as USB
keys/pendrives, memory sticks, etc. It can be especially useful for cases where: You need
to create USB installation media from bootable ISOs (Windows, Linux, UEFI, etc.) You need
to work on a system that doesn't have an OS installed. You need to flash a BIOS or other
firmware from DOS. You want to run a low-level utility
