Reflection paper in ULTIMATE WEBINAR SERIES OF 2021: Fostering Scholarly

Community among SKSU Graduate Students Batch 1 Webinar

Webinars are seminars that are performed on the World Wide Web. They can be

meetings, conferences, demonstrations, training or teaching, or events that are designed to give

information either one-way or interactively.

I joined the conducted webinar last 20th day of June, 2021 through Google Meet were

participated by Masters of Arts in Education (MAED) and Master in Agricultural Science and

Technology (MAST) students in our graduate seminar subject. A total of more or less 80

participants was present during the webinar. I looked forward to this activity, since this was our

first meeting through online. I was also curious on what will be the seminar all about. Our

speaker is Professor Michael Kennedy G. Camarao, Ph. D, who is a very good speaker and he

explained well the lesson. I was refreshed with the different lessons tackled about writing a

research paper. Powerpoint presentation of our speaker was very clear and easy to understand

however, there were words that its difficult to understand which I need to look it online.

One of the highlights of the seminar was the presentation of fifteen (15) groups. This

sessions enable them to engage with one another and collaborate and express their opinions and

ideas .They presented various studies from education and agriculture sector. It was informative

enough to discussed it with us. The speakers were good and presented it with confidence. It was

helpful that they presented the methodology and the result and discussion of every studies, since

it’s an important part of every research. I observed that they presented by pair and the time

allotted was enough in every presentation. Speakers were given 15 minutes including the

question and answer portion. Questions and suggestions was helpful also since it made us

converse and analyze deeply every part of the study. Since I am a graduate of agriculture course,

studies presented about agriculture was very interesting and might helpful in conducting my own

research later. A study related to COVID 19 was also presented which was very timely due to

our present situation. I observed that presentation was properly arranged however, internet

connection is not stable and the weather is not good.

On the other hand, With webinars it is much more difficult to assess the group’s interests

and experience so as to pitch the presentation at the right level in terms of relevance and interest.

The presenter is also more restricted in that the presentation has been made beforehand and

therefore cannot be changed to suit the learners’ needs.

Overall, the webinar was good and the facilitators were also helpful and active. I liked

when they appreciate presenters’ effort. To the presenters, they give their best to deliver, create

and produce a great presentation. They highlight the importance of research and why do we

conduct research. This was a great experience that they were able to share their expertise and

knowledge. I commend also our professors who guided and instructed the facilitators and she

was able to invite the best speaker in this seminar. Kudos!
