Safety tips before using a wire cutter:
Visual Inspection - The defective and non-defective tools are easily identified through visual inspection.
Defective and non-defective tools are described by its physical appearance such as dullness, sharpness,
dismantled parts and more
Functionality - Another way to determine the defective and non-defective tools is by checking or assessing if
the tool is already susceptible to wear and tear or does it exceed to its service life already.
Performance - Checking the performance of the tool is one way also to determine defective and non-defective
tools. Checking of the performance of a tool is not only done during the actual use, it should also be done
before and after to determine whether the tool is still worthy to be used.
If a tool is defective, remove it from service, and tag it clearly "Out of service for repair.”
If tools are defective, attach an Out of Service tag with signature and date.
Replace damaged equipment immediately – do not use defective tools "temporarily.”
Have tools repaired by a qualified person – do not attempt field repairs.
To ensure safe use of hand tools, do not use a defective tool, inspect tools prior to use and verify that
tools are repaired.
Defective tools can cause serious and painful injuries. If a tool is defective in some ways, do not use it.
Once defective hand tools are identified, separate it and have it labelled “defective” or “faulty.” Defective or
faulty tools should be contained in a separate container for them not to be mistakenly used by others.
Clearing the area from defective or faulty hand tools promotes safety among the users of it and the
equipment.
