THE NECKLACE BOOK REVIEW

The Necklace, a short story by Guy de Maupassant, was first published in 1884 in the magazine La
Gaulois. It's famous for its unexpected conclusion and condemnation of greed and vanity. The
protagonist, Mathilde Loisel, is a beautiful, conceited woman who wishes to rise in society. Mrs Loisel
had misplaced the jewelry she had borrowed from a friend, and rather than apologizing to the owner,
she became even more in debt and destitute to pay the amount. The story illustrates the need of being
content with one's possessions and the negative consequences of pride and vanity.

The rhythm of the story guides the readers' expectations for the ending. At the outset of the novel,
Mathilde is dissatisfied with her current status. She is then invited to a ball where she will have the
chance to make a difference. On the other hand, the events leading up to the celebration reveal her
dissatisfaction with everything. Mathilde is dissatisfied with everything she has as a result of a sequence
of tragic incidents. The time after a ball, on the other hand, is more than just a moment of sadness. It's a
complete disaster in her life.

Maupassant used a literary realism technique as a writer in 19th-century France. Maupassant is noted
for his dramatic plot twists and endings. This is a strategy in which authors create a dramatic alteration
in the expected result of a story, usually near the end of the story, and surprise the reader with it.
As a result, both the characters and the reader have a "reaction" moment. Dramatic irony
occurs when the reader discovers the surprise before the characters. In the story, foreshadowing is a
key literary element, especially when Maupassant writes that the new necklace "seemed" to be identical
to the previous one.
Before we learn the truth at the conclusion, the reader realizes something is amiss. Another
example occurs early in the novel, when Maupassant says, "she was miserable as if she had truly fallen
from a higher station," implying that they will eventually go from middle class to poverty.

In contrast, Maupassant's nearly romantic picture of the Loisels' party, where Mathilde wore the titular
necklace, is striking. "The Necklace," by Guy de Maupassant, is the story of a woman consumed with her
desire to be wealthy and a member of the upper class. Her perception is out of sync with reality due to
the ironic twist in the story. The deception of appearances is shown to be the fundamental cause of the
sad outcome as the novel unfolds. The Necklace is intended to persuade readers that being a less
fortunate person isn't a big thing; it won't matter as long as you live honestly and with good conduct;
and that life isn't simply about luxury, but about being content with what you have and the life you live
