World Vision Development Foundation and the Department of Education
(DepEd), launched a movement seeks to enhance the skills of Filipino children who can read and improve their comprehension. This is called :Brigada Pagbasa. It is considered as an upshot of Brigada Eskwela — an annual schools maintenance activity initiated by DepEd and done nationwide with the help of various sectors and individuals who volunteer to do the work, including repairs and cleanup.
It is another intervention that could help to reach the small percentage of
the Filipino who cannot read. The Jose Panganiban Elementary School is one of the schools that offered its full support for the said movement. JPES implemented the program through individuals and groups from various sectors who could volunteer to do the reading sessions with the children
Struggling readers were identified .Teachers were given assignments in
every Purok to conduct the reading sessions. Purok 2 and Purok 3 of Barangay Plaridel were being identified to have 6 pupils who struggled reading in English and even in Filipino.These learners were offered materials for them to read to assess their reading level. After the assessment , intervention were planned for these struggling learners.The reading sessions is being done in every pupil’s home or in every learning kiosk of every “Purok” of each Barangay.
Brigada Pagbasa gives chance to improve literacy among children and
