Chapter III

Methodology

This chapter will explain how the researchers gather data and information. It

comprises the location in which research is being perform and expected to be done.

And also it will cover the respondents, the research design, and the locale of the study,

the participants of the study, the research instruments, the data-gathering procedure

and the statistical techniques.

Research Design

This study made use of the experimental method of research. This method is a

systematic and scientific approach to research in which the researcher manipulates one

or more variables, and controls and measures any change in other variables. This

method can help the researchers to figure out what will be the outcome of their

research.

Locale of the Study

The research study was conducted at Brgy. Hinaplanon Iligan City. This

barangay is divided into two section the Proper Hinaplanon and the Lower HInaplanon.

Brgy. Hinaplanon is located in the intersection between San. Lorenzo Sub-Parish

Church and the national high way. The respondents were randomly selected within the

specified barangay and they should be residents of this community.

Participants of the Study

To prove and to have a true research of the study, the researchers choose

respondents who have an idea and knowledge about Madre de Cacao (Gliricidia

sepium) where they could give meaningful answers for this research study. The

researcher’s respondents are only exclusive for the residence of Brgy. Hinaplanon Iligan

City.

The Research Instrument

The study uses questionnaires that will be used to assess the effectiveness of

Madre de Cacao (Gliricidia sepium) leaf extract as an insect repellent in selected

residents of Brgy. Hinaplanon Iligan City. Quantitative method will be used to help and

assess the data that will be collected from the survey. The same questionnaires will be

given to the one hundred (100) participants with the same number and questions to be

asked to the respondents to determine the validity of the study.

The questionnaires will have a total of ten (10) item questions to the respondent.

The respondents will be given all the time to answer the questionnaires does the

participants must answer the questions with all honesty that they have. The questions

are quite personal so the data and answers will be for the research purpose only. The

data that will be collected will be assessed by the researcher. With the permission of the

participants their name and the data and answers that will be collected will be on the

research paper. Further with this, the data will not be used without the consent of the

respondents and will not be used against them.

Data-Gathering Procedures

In order for the researcher to collect the data they must go through the following

step. First, the researchers were obligated to formulate research questions or generally

a questionnaire to be used as instrument in the research study, the researcher must find

a respondents then orient them for the type of questions to be asked, number of

questions and everything they must need to know for them to be informed and if

possible an agreement will be made to between the respondents and the researcher to

secure and make everything safe as possible. Second, the researcher must ready the

questionnaires and let the respondents answer the given questionnaires. The

respondents will have all the time in answering the questions. The researcher must be

on the side or near the respondents for clarifications and if ever questions will arise. All

the respondents must do is just cooperate, answer the questions honestly as they can.

After the survey the researcher will be responsible for the data and the confidentiality of

the participant and its given data.
