Emerging

Technologies
What are Emerging Technologies?

Emerging technologies are those technologies whose

development, practical applications, or both are still largely
unrealized.
It is a term generally used to describe a new technology, but it
may also refer to the continuing development of an existing
technology.
It commonly refers to technologies that are currently
developing, or that are expected to be available within the
next five to ten years.
Types of Emerging Technologies

Emerging technologies include a variety of technologies

pertaining to each field such as :

1. Green Technology
2. Mechatronics
3. Nanotechnology
4. Biotechnology
Green Technology

1. Green tech–or green technology–is an umbrella term that describes

the use of technology and science to reduce human impacts on the
natural environment.
2. Green technology encompasses a wide area of scientific research,
including energy, atmospheric science, agriculture, material science,
and hydrology.
3. Many green technologies aim to reduce emissions of carbon dioxide
and other greenhouse gases in order to prevent climate change.
4. Solar power is one of the most successful green technologies and is
now cheaper to deploy than fossil fuels in many countries.
Mechatronics

1. Mechatronics is a multidisciplinary field that is a blend of

mechanical, electrical and computerized technologieswhich together
form a complex system .
2. Mechatronics deals with robotics, control systems, and electro-
mechanical systems and creates simpler and smarter systems.
3. Mechatronics is an essential foundation for the expected growth in
automation and manufacturing.
4. Mechatronics specialists work in the fields of cybersecurity,
telecommunications, computer science, automotive engineering,
robotics, artificial intelligence, consumer products and packaging.
Nanotechnology

1. Nanotechnology is the understanding and control of matter at the

nanoscale, at dimensions between approximately 1 and 100
nanometers.
2. In nanotechnology, it gives us the ability to see and to control
individual atoms and molecules in objects.
3. It is used across all the science fields, such as chemistry, biology,
physics, materials science, and engineering.
4. Advantages of Nanotechnology include reduced cost of
manufactured products, elimination of industrial chemical pollution,
curing diseases using medical nanorobots.
Biotechnology

1. Biotechnology is the art of utilizing living organisms and their

products for the production of food, drink, medicine or for other
benefits to the human race.
2. By harnessing cellular and biomolecular processes, scientists can
make advances and adaptations to technology in various fields.
3. With the development of genetic engineering in the 1970s,
research in biotechnology developed rapidly because of the new
possibility to make changes in the organism's' genetic material
(DNA).
4. Examples include the creation of new materials in the
construction industry, the manufacture of beer and wine,
washing detergents, and personal care products.
Conclusion
Emerging technology can improve people's lives in many ways
as they are the components for building new solutions.
Technological advancements can help people complete tasks
more efficiently, keep them safer and healthier and also
protect the environment.
The management of emerging technologies is a multifaceted
challenge as it includes the management of the innovation
process, the implementation of the new technologies and the
management of change as it accrues from the adoption of the
new technology by the organization and its environment.
