Jills Ruffled Crochet Dishcloth

Finished Size: Approximately 9 square Materials: 3 coordinating colors of 100% cotton worsted weight yarn Crochet Hook -- Size I Directions: Using yarn desired for inner section, Chain 32. Row 1: sc in second chain from hook, * ch 2, skip next 2 chs, sc in next ch; repeat from * across; should have 11 sc and 10 ch-2 sp. Rows 2-29: ch 1; turn, sc in first sc, (ch 2, sc in next sc) across; this puts your sc on top of previous rows sc across Work in this way until the piece is square; size will be approximately 7 x 7. It is easier to fold the piece in half diagonally to check for square rather than counting the rows; this is a very flexible pattern. Do not turn work from this point forward; do not finish off. Inner Border: Round 1: Add in a new color with one chain from the ending inner square; sc 16-18 (evenly spaced) times down the first side; work 3 sc in each corner; join with slip st to first sc. {NOTE: to maintain square, be sure to put the same number of sc on each of the four sides and three in each corner.} Round 2: Ch 2; half double crochet (hdc) in each sc all the way around making 3 hdc in the middle sc of each corner. Join with a slip stitch; do not finish off. Ruffled Outer Border: Add in a new color from ending the hdc border; ch 3; skip one hdc and make 4 double crochet (dc) in every other hdc stitch as you go around except corners. Corners: In first hdc of the corner, make 3 dc, ch 3, skip the second corner hdc and make three dc in the third hdc of the corner. After working corner, skip next hdc and continue with 4 dc in every other hdc across. Use the three chain beginning as one of final 3 dc; join with a slip stitch and finish off.
