Akai MPC2000XL

INSTALL INSTRUCTIONS
Before install - upgrade your OS!!

This is very important - find a ebay

seller who sells the MPC2000XL
1.2 OS upgrade on floppy if you
are not already on that operating
system. Install the OS via your
floppy drive BEFORE continuing with
the compact flash reader install.
Open the MPC via the base panel
Flip your MPC upside down (resting it on a pillow or cushion to protect
it from damage), unscrew the screws holding the base panel to the body
- please look at any one of the handful of youtube videos posted if you
cannot tell which screws to remove.

There are 2 screws holding the floppy drive in, unscrew those,
then screw your new flash reader in place (see below pictures)
so it is visible from front of MPC (picture on right).
ADAPTI - and power cable
Please attach the supplied cable to the ADAPTI connection on your MPC’s mother board (see below).
DO NOT USE THE INTERNAL SCSI CONNECTION FOR THIS READER.

The molex cable that was providing power to your floppy drive will connect (as pictured) to the cable
provided (and already attached) for your compact flash reader (as shown). This now powers your
compact flash reader.
CARDS
Your 2000XL will only format 1GB of usable space on a compact flash card in a single partition.
As a sampler, it is also very fussy about brands - this is the machine itself and its OS, not a issue
with this flash reader. Please use the below brands in 1GB size.

FORMATTING
Always boot with a card already inserted, select the ADAPTI drive and format the card.

HOT SWAPPING
When swapping flash cards (with the sampler ON), its a good idea to get the sampler to clear its
ADAPTI memory. Ask your sampler to look at another connection (like SCSI for example). Then
swap cards - THEN ask for it to look at the ADAPTI drive again. It will now build a new map of the
new card’s contents. If you don’t do this it will often think your new card has the same content as
the previous one,
