LEARNER CALA GUIDE
A fresh water tank or tap is needed to service the new science laboratories (S), computer lab
and library (L), tuckshop (T) and the girls’ dormitories (G). Power outages have made it
apparent for a new fresh water point as the existing ones are a bit far and overpopulated.
You have been tasked to identify a considerably fair location of the water point given the
following information by the maintenance department.
a. SL is 60m, LT is 80m and TG is 70m. T is on a bearing of 030⁰ from L and angle LTG is 90⁰.
b. The tap or tank should not be more than 60m from G, should be nearer to S than T and
not more than 50m from LT.
ACTIVITY 1
Using a scale of 1cm: 10m, construct the positions of S, L, T and G. [8]
ACTIVITY 2
Construct the locus of points that are equidistant from S and T. [2]
ACTIVITY 3
Construct the locus of points that are 50m from LT on the same side of LT as G. [2]
ACTIVITY 4
Construct the locus of points that are 60m from G. [1]
ACTIVITY 5
Shade the region in which the tank or tap must lie. [2]
ACTIVITY 6
Measure angle GSL. [2]
ACTIVITY 7
Give an overview on the location of the tap or tank at the identified region. [3]
