INTRODUCTION

Our homes are one of the safest places we can call home, but no matter how many safety
precautions we take, there are still accidents that cannot be avoided or predicted. These
unfortunate accidents have the potential to endanger our lives and destroy some of our
possessions. Natural disasters, short circuits, and fuel and poisonous gas leaks (propane,
methane, ethane, carbon monoxide, and carbon dioxide) are only a few of the dangers. We could
make our homes a safer place to live if we could eliminate one or two of these risks. Early
warning notifications require the assistance of technology to ensure that adequate time is
available to prevent any threats. Gas Leakage Detector Systems, for example, play a critical
function in our homes, especially when it comes to gases that we can't see with our naked eye
and that might potentially create explosions owing to flame control failures, as well as
contamination of pollutants inside our houses. This safety system basically consists of a gas
sensor capable of detecting H2, LPG, CH4, CO & Alcohol as well as a microcontroller capable
of delivering an alert to the user by SMS or email in order to have an automatic alert system.
This gas detection system could detect leaks in LPG or other natural gases, as well as if a gas
stove was left on but not lighted. With the help of this safety system, the user can take timely
action to avoid potential gas leakage-related accidents.

When gas is used, there is always a risk of leakage, endangering human life and property.
As a result, developing a low-cost gas leakage detector can assist in reducing this danger over
time. Gas (LPG or methane) leaks in households and industries (mostly the oil and gas industry)
have resulted in several accidents. This Gas Alarm system can help us increase our home's
security measures in the event of dangerous gases or leaks. This will be a fantastic
countermeasure to keep us secure and away from the potential threat posed by the leaks.
II. PROBLEM DISCUSSION

When it comes to developing homes, buildings, businesses, and communities, safety has
always been a top priority. Our houses are one of the safest places we can be, yet we cannot
deny that accidents can happen in certain circumstances. These regrettable events have the
ability to put our lives in jeopardy and ruin some of our belongings. One of these tragic
incidents is gas leakage, which should not be overlooked. An enough concentration of this
gases can be extremely dangerous. These gases may be combustible under specific
temperature and humidity circumstances, and poisonous once concentrations have been
exceeded. This might lead into problems like explosion that may ruin all of our possessions,
can cause severe accidents and will have adverse effects on people’s health. To avoid this
mishaps, an efficient and easy monitoring of gas leakages is one of the best solutions to
answer this issue. In order to control such situation, monitoring of gas leakages in a
continuous basis using sensor which are capable of detecting gases such as LPG will lessen
the probability of a gas-leakage accidents to happen. Moreover, the presence of excess
amount of gases will notify the user to do an immediate action to prevent such accidents to
happen.

B. System Methodology

Nowadays, semiconductor materials are being thoroughly studied to be applied as

gas sensors. This is because materials like the semiconductor oxides show interesting
chemical and physical properties when the surface of these materials come into contact
with an oxidizing or reducing gas. In fact, their response is affected when the surface reacts
chemically or physically with the molecules of test gases, varying the conductance and
resistance as a function of concentration. There are many Analog Gas sensor but the most
popular Analog Gas Sensor used is MQ5 Gas Sensor. The MQ5 gas sensor detects the
presence of various gases such as hydrogen, carbon monoxide, methane and LPG. The
sensor interacts with a gas to measure its concentration ranging from 100ppm to 3,000ppm.
When a gas interacts with this sensor, it is first ionized into its constituents and is then
adsorbed by the sensing element. This adsorption creates a potential difference in the
element which is conveyed to the controller unit through an output analog pin in the form
of current. Thus we are measuring the Analog current as an output which increases on
increasing Gas Level.

To sense the LPG Gas in Air, we will use the MQ2/MQ5 Gas Sensor. The MQ5 Gas
Sensor is suitable for detecting H2, LPG, CH4, CO & Alcohol. Because of its greater
Sensitivity & fast Response, safety Alert can be sent quickly.
We will use the ESP32 Webserver Client so you can monitor if the Gas/LPG Leakage
is detected above certain Threshold Value. Thus this ESP32 Webserver the user can
monitor when there are gas leakages and to shut down the valve or take any action
immediately. The system can be activated or deactivated through the Local Web Server. If
we choose to deactivate, we can’t monitor the gas leakages when the gas level is exceeded.
We can use this System as a Safety System in Industry or at home.
