Our Lesson Objective are the following:
1. Identify the function of tools, equipment and paraphernalia in caregiving.
2. Determine the tools, equipment and paraphernalia in caregiving.
3. Classify the tools, equipment and paraphernalia in caregiving.
Before we begin let’s us know the definitions of
 Tools – is anything handy. A thing that you can hold for a longer period of time. Without minding its
weight.
 Equipment – is a device or appliance powered with electricity and can be used for multi-tasking
purposes.
 Paraphernalia – is any instrument that can be used in taking vital signs.

Introduction:

What is caregiving? Who is caregiving? And what are the duties and responsibilities of a caregiver?

1. A person who provide direct care as for children, elderly people, or the chronically ill. CAREGIVER
2. Providing care for the physical and emotion needs of a family member or a friend at home. CAREGIVING

MEAL PREPARATION

1. AIRPOT A vessel usually rounded high tech which is used for


holding liquid to maintain heat or coldness.

2. BLENDER A kitchen and laboratory appliance which is used to mix


puree, or emulsify food and other substances.
3. COFFEE MAKER An electric countertop appliance that brews hot coffee

4. CHOPPING BOARD A flat, wooden, or plastic board where meats or
vegetables can be cut.
5. ELECTRIC KNIFE Used for slicing food. It requires less physical effort
than an ordinary knife and make nicer slices. (powered

6. ELECTRIC CAN OPENER A very useful device which is used to open canned
goods. (manual can opener not knives hazard, cuts)
7. FOOD PROCESSOR A multi-tasking tools which is used to slice, dice or whip
food ingredients. (no need water)
8. FOOD TONG An instrument with two hinged or spring arms for
grasping and holding (to avoid burns)
9. MICROWAVE OVEN An oven uses microwave to cook or heat food. (7/11 re-
heat ang food packs dapat microvable ang gamit)
10. LADLE Is a long – handled spoon with a deep bowl at the end
for serving spoon specially broth or soup.

CLEANING, WASHING, AND IRONING

1. BOTTLE STERILIZER Used in destructing microorganism in containers like


feeding bottle.

2. BROOM Used to for sweeping dirt. It consist of twigs bristles


bound together and attached to a handle.
3. HANGER Resembles the shape of a person’s shoulders and used
to hang garments on.
4. DISHWASHER A mechanical device for cleaning dishes, eating utensils
and pots.
5. DRYER A machine or apparatus that removes moisture through
ventilation or heat.
6. DUSTPAN A handled pan or scoop into which dust is sweep.

7. DUSTER A cloth or brush which is used in removing dirt and
dust.
8. FLAT IRON Electric appliance’s which is used along with an ironing
board to iron or press clothing, fabric, or draperies.
(Operated also by the electricity)
9. IRONING BOARD A long narrow padded board, often with collapsible
supporting legs, used as a working surface for ironing.
(Expose to ergonomic hazards)
10. LAUNDRY BASKET Used for holding dirty cloths for washing a wet for
drying. It may also be used for sorting clean clothes to
be folded.
11. VACUUM CLEANER An electrical appliance which is used for cleaning of
floors, carpets, and furniture by suction. (Seen on
shopping malls, and more expensive)
12. WASHING MACHINE An electric appliance which is used for washing clothes
and linen.

VITAL SIGNS
(Heart Beat, Body Temperature, Blood Pressure and Pulse Rate)

1. THERMOMETER Is an instrument for measuring temperature. (sa

Body Normal Temperature 36.5 - 37.2 C = Normal
2. STETHOSCOPE Used for listening to the action of the heart, lungs, and
etc.
3. BP APPARATUS Can be applied one hand for self-testing; Stethoscope
that is built in or attached and a valve that inflates and
deflates automatically with the data display.
