ABSTRACT

Handling luggage is the main element of an aircraft ground system at an airport. It consists of many

partial tasks that run from the arrival of the aircraft to the stand until its departure. Since the passenger

luggage is valuables that need to be taken care of, airlines are doing their best to provide safety not only to

their passengers but as well as to their luggage. Given the fact that loss of luggage is a common problem of

different airlines around the world. It is somewhat rampant and various airlines are trying to solve this kind

of issue. Thus, this paper aims to create a beneficial system that could help airline passengers to have a

more convenient travel experience. Entitled as Airline Luggage System a system that has the potential to

formulate this kind of aviation complication but at the same time accessible to all.

INTRODUCTION

Nowadays people travel because of many reasons. Due to urbanization, people are traveling to

other states and other countries of the world. Some people travel to join for jobs, some people travel for the

educations, some people travel to attend official meetings and conferences.

However, some travelers experienced losing their luggage after they have arrived at their

destination. According to the 2018 Air Transport Industry Insights: The Baggage Report, 5.57 bags are

mishandled on average per every 1,000 fliers globally, totaling 22.7 million lost bags in 2017 alone.

In line with this kind of situation on airlines, the researchers came up with an idea to have Airline

Luggage System. A system that accurately tracks bags from check-in, ground transfer, and on and off

airplanes—delivering fast and accurate data about bags as they move through automated systems. The

owner of luggage has only access to this system since it has his/her own username and password.

Moreover, in this system, the weight, color, and size of the luggage are indicated.

The system will be able to help airlines to reduce the number of lost baggage every year, and avoid

conflicts with their passengers. Also, it can provide safe and stress-free travel since people can track their

luggage in real-time.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

The findings of this study will rebound to the benefit of airlines and airports in terms of optimizing

baggage handling operations and improve passenger experience and security. In research particularly the

2018 Air Transport Industry Insights: The Baggage Report, 5.57 bags are mishandled on average per 1,000

fliers globally, totaling 22.7 million lost bags in 2017 alone. The recommended Baggage Tracking device

flawlessly lets airlines and airports accurately track bags from check-in, ground transfer, and on and off

airplanes. And with such data and information is to also share with the specified passengers. Thus, the

airlines and airports who apply the recommended Baggage tracking device will be able to lessen the cases

of losing the baggage and improve credibility and for the passengers, making them fly stress-free.

For the researchers, the study will help them uncover the weak spots in a system that

unintentionally lower the safety of every passenger which that of many researchers are not able to explore.

Thus, a new system by the means of safety in Baggage of every passenger may be arrived at.

The passengers will be guided by authorized personnel with their own account and password all

about the recommended Baggage tracking device, and that all questions are answered by the authorized

personnel.

THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK

This study shows how the system works. This will help the researchers conceptualize the idea to

easily apply the process in creating the system interface.

DEFINITION OF TERMS

This study helps the researchers define the words used properly.

The meaning of baggage and luggage is suitcases, trunks, and personal belongings of travelers.

The meaning of departure is the act or an instance of departing.

The meaning of urbanization is the quality or state of being urbanized or the process of becoming

urbanized.

SYSTEM DESIGN

The system design that was made by the researchers was developed from scratch to the actual

design of the system.

The first design was shown below:

METHODOLOGY

This chapter will contain the research design, and the research instruments the researchers used.

Research Design

The research design that the researchers use in this study was Correlational research.

Correlational research is a type of non-experimental research method, in which a researcher measures two

variables, understands and assesses the statistical relationship between them with no influence from any

extraneous variable. This study attempts to understand the correlational event between the passenger

once they lost their luggage and what will be the actions of the authority in this scenario.

Research Instruments

The researchers mainly used in creating this website are Microsoft Excel. Microsoft Excel is a

spreadsheet developed by Microsoft. The researchers use several features of it such as calculation,

graphing tools, pivot tables, and a macro programming language called Visual Basic for Applications. In

addition, the main language that the researchers used was the English language because without a doubt it

is considered a universal language and it is the commonly known and spoke language for about 40% of the

world’s total Gross National Product (GNP).

CONCLUSION

The researchers conclude that this system prototype can help the passengers lessen the burden of

traveling overseas.

11 | Page
The purpose of the system is to ensure the safety of the passenger’s luggage. The system includes

the information of the luggage, passport, ticket, and flight path, which is designed for the convenience of

the traveler.

Although this research might be lacking in some ways, it can be further developed by the other

researchers and this study can serve as a reference to further improve the system.

RECOMMENDATION

The researchers would recommend this study to all of the Airlines here in our country that have

problems in bringing back and securing the luggage and belongings of the passengers.

The researchers recommend this study to the Airline Enthusiast and receptionist who want to

improve the scanning strategy of the luggage of the passengers. This strategy would be a great help to

them because one way of having this strategy in their Airline would be a better help not only to them but

also the passengers.

The researchers would also recommend this study to the Passengers to avoid having problems like

loss of belongings inside the airport. Also, in order to secure their things to easily find their bags and

luggage’s by the use of the text message coming from the Airline Clerk or Staff.

The researchers recommend this study to future researchers who would like to conduct the same

study so they can use this study as a guide or reference for the progression of their study.

Lastly, the researchers would like to recommend this study for the students of Pre- Engineering or

just student who would like to venture into the Aviation World.
