Hidayatullah National Law University, Raipur was established by the
Government of Chhattisgarh under the Hidayatullah National University of
Law, Chhattisgarh Act (Act No. 10 of 2003). HNLU is a residential
university and is sixth in the series of National Law Schools in India.
Hon'ble Mr. Justice N. V. Ramana, Chief Justice of India, is the Visitor; Hon'ble
Mr. Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra, Acting Chief Justice, High Court of
Chhattisgarh is the Chancellor, and Prof. (Dr.) V. C. Vivekanandan is the Vice-
Chancellor of the University.

Life at HNLU comprises of a myriad of enriching and learning experiences which


not only disseminate the knowledge of contours of law but also prepare the
students for the life ahead. The motto of the University is ‚Dharma
Sansthapanartham‛ which means ‚for the sake of establishing the primacy of
the laws of eternal values‛. The University has a flourishing culture of student
participation in various academic and co-curricular events as well where
students of HNLU have performed outstandingly such as Moot Court
Competitions, Seminars, Debating, Research Publications, Model United
Nations, Cultural and Sports Festivals through which students are acclimatized
to the ethos of teamwork, cooperation, trust and adapting according to the
needs of challenges presented to them. In a line, it can be said that the
students at HNLU learn more than just the law; they learn how to take charge of
their life and lead in all its spheres.

The University seeks to impart and advance quality legal education by engaging
in teaching, research and dissemination of legal knowledge and to develop
among students a sense of responsibility to serve the society in the field of law
by taking to advocacy and reforms in law and justice administration system
playing a catalyst role in the national development. The mission of the
University is to become the best law university in the country by providing
quality legal education to the students and equipping them with the skills and
competence to emerge as world-class professionals, scholars and academicians
in the field of law and justice administration system.

INFRASTRUCTURE

LIBRARY | The library of HNLU is considered as a laboratory of a scientific institute, where the apparatus for
the law students are the classic law books, case law reports, and journals that are available in full sets. One
of the special features of the Library is the Hidayatullah collection, which is a collection of books donated
from the personal collection of Justice Mohammad Hidayatullah.

MOOT COURT HALLS | HNLU is one of the very few Universities in India to include Moot Court exercises as
a compulsory part of every legal subject. The University has five Moot Court halls which are used by students
for Benchmark Rounds, Intra-University Challengers and can be seen in their complete glory during the
Justice Hidayatullah Memorial National Moot Court Competition.

COMPUTER LAB | HNLU has a fully air-conditioned Computer Lab with a sufficiently large number of
Desktop Computers with Internet connectivity. Since project presentation is part of every subject taught at
HNLU, students find the Computer-Lab is very useful for preparing their project reports and memorials for
moot court exercisers. All the legal databases are made available to the students of HNLU.

SMART CLASSROOMS | At HNLU, the classrooms are equipped with smart class connections, display boards,
aesthetic furnishing and projectors. In addition, a high-speed broadband connection facilitates easy access
to any required information. In such a hi-tech classroom, it becomes easy for the teachers to derive even the
most complex and technical concepts from easy illustrations and presentation.

PLAYGROUNDS | HNLU believes in the philosophy ‚A healthy mind in a healthy body‛. Adequate facilities
are available for sporting activities and the Sports Committee, a student body, takes care of the sporting
requirements of the students of HNLU. Inter and Intra Semester matches are conducted to bring out the
talents from amongst the students.

FLAGSHIP EVENTS

JUSTICE HIDAYATULLAH MEMORIAL NATIONAL MOOT COURT COMPETITION


The University has been regularly organizing the annual Justice Hidayatullah Memorial National
Moot Court Competition (HNMCC) to promote and encourage mooting culture among the law
schools of the country in general and among the students of HNLU.

HNLU INTERNATIONAL MODEL UNITED NATIONS (HNLU IMUNC)


The University organizes International Model United Nations Conference (HNLU IMUNC)
annually in which universities and colleges along with international delegates participate. In
2019 HNLU organized the 3 rd edition of the HNLU IMUNC in collaboration with the United
Nations Information Centre (UNIC) for India and Bhutan.

COLOSSUS
Besides the academic activities, HNLU also organizes an annual flagship national level sports and
cultural fest ‚Colossus‛ to promote the spirit of sports and cultural activities among the
students. The fest has grown bigger each year and boasts of a multitude of events, performances
and participation. Almost all the reputed universities participate in the event from all corners of
the country.

CURRICULAR EVENTS

VIRTUAL SESSIONS IN COLLABORATION WITH NISHITH DESAI ASSOCIATES


HNLU organized virtual student sessions in collaboration with Nishith Desai Associates on topics of
present-day importance such as Impact of Covid -19 on Sports law in India, Impact investing,
Censorship and Freedom of Speech on Social Media etc. These sessions were in the form of
discussion with representatives of the firm on the above-mentioned topics after going through
research papers based on them.

HNLU LECTURE SERIES (HLS)


HNLU organizes Guest Lecture Series by eminent scholars and experts in the field for specific and
specialized subjects as well as on the matters of contemporary legal significance and emerging
issues. It also aims to help the students to consider their potential career options and
various facets of their profession.

EX ARCA
Ex Arca is the outreach platform of HNLU to connect with the student community at the University and to the legal fraternity at large. It is a blended platform of online
and offline dissemination of the interface of Arts & Humanities, Social Sciences, Science & Technology and management with law.
The main objective behind Ex Arca is to support and supplement the understanding of law for students and teachers alike, through the domain experts across Law,
Technology, Medicine, Arts and Culture.

ALMA MATTERS
‚Alma Matters‛ is a digital initiative of HNLU to connect their distinguished alumni to the legal fraternity to celebrate and disseminate their contribution to the legal
fraternity and society at large. The objective behind ‘Alma Matters’ webinar platform is to invite, honour and get inspired from the Alumni of their turbulence and
triumphs, ambivalence and achievements for an inter-generational motivation.

LEX OSMOSE
Lex Osmose‛ programme is designed as customized single/ double credit courses offered by external faculty comprising Academics, Advocates, Policy wonks and Civil
Society enthusiasts. These courses are offered online /offline to interested applicants to be evaluated for the learning outcome and will be part of the certification
outside CGPA. The university has successfully conducted 10 courses in 2 rounds since its inception in June 2020. The main objective of the program is to introduce
advanced and specialized courses to expand the knowledge domain of law that impacts individuals and society in all spheres of life and can be summarized as ‘womb to
tomb’.

PARLIAMENTARY DEBATE
Hidayatullah National Law University organizes the National Youth Parliament Competition where participants take part in interactive sessions like those of the Indian
Parliament and learn the nuances of being a parliamentarian.

SUI GENERIS
Sui Generis is the faculty seminar series at HNLU for the faculty presented online. The platform to be expanded for connecting with the legal fraternity at large in the
coming phases will have research topics currently dealt by faculty and also their contributions in various conferences. The format to have 35 minutes of presentation by
the faculty-led by a discussant followed by interaction with the participants. A total of 31 Sui Generis seminars were conducted between April to September of 2020 and
were recorded.

HNLU PRESS
‘HNLU PRESS’ – a publication division of Hidayatullah National Law University to publish and disseminate print/electronic and multimedia content. HNLU PRESS aims to
scale up the existing publication efforts apart from launching new initiatives in the field of Law and other disciplines interfacing Law. This platform aims not only to
publish legal research articles from established contributors but to encourage young talents to contribute. This initiative will span out ‘Faculty edited’ and ‘Student
edited’ publications and will bring out Journals, Monographs, Compendiums of Case Laws, Books and Multimedia learning content. The content from HNLU PRESS will
be available as ‘Open Access Models’ to the discerning readers.

GURUCHARAN SINGH TULSI NATIONAL LEGAL ESSAY
COMPETITION
The University organizes Gurucharan Singh Tulsi National
Legal Essay Competition under the flagship of Mr. K.T.S.
Tulsi, Senior Advocate, Supreme Court of India, with a
motive to drive young legal minds towards the
contemporary legal scenario of the country.

AKANKSHA SONI MEMORIAL NATIONAL LEGAL ESSAY


WRITING COMPETITION
The University organizes the Akanksha Soni Memorial GIVING BACK
National Legal Essay Writing Competition in the memory of
the University's Alumna for all future lawyers. The theme of LEGAL AID AND SOCIAL SERVICE COMMITTEE (LSSC)
the last edition of this competition was ‚Human and Being aware of its social responsibility, the University reaches out to the needy and

Foundation with a broader theme of Peace and Security in The flagship student initiative of the Legal and Social Services Committee of HNLU is aimed at
International Law. imparting free primary and secondary academic education to the school going students of nearby
villages. Currently, the body focuses on Uparwara Village of Naya Raipur.

IDIA
The IDIA project was initiated to reach out to marginalized and under-represented groups,
sensitize them to law as available career option and help interested students acquire admission to
these law schools. The Chhattisgarh chapter is headed by University students and many students
within the University are involved in mentoring the IDIA scholars.

NYAYA MELA
The University regularly organizes ‚Nyaya Mela‛ in the nearby villages which the Legal Aid Cell of
the University has adopted. Advocates and Judges are invited to advise people on legal matters
and resolve disputes, generally relating to land acquisition, matrimonial differences, etc

ABOUT THE CLASS OF 2022
The Class of 2022 comprises a vibrant medley of bright minds from across the
country. As a group of students hailing from different parts of the country this batch
represents, at its core, the very essence of the youth of this country – diverse
yet unprejudiced, holding different views and opinions and yet indulging in rational
discourse on the same to create an atmosphere of sound learning.

The students of this batch are an asset to this institution, participating in and
organizing several debating, sporting, quizzing and events within the university
around the year through extensive planning and coordination. Many members of this
batch have been instrumental in setting the wheels of our Samanvay programme for
teaching underprivileged children of the neighbouring villages in motion and have
been an active part of the organizing committees for several events in the university
such as the Hidayatullah National Moot Court Competition and Colossus – the cultural

TRAVEL AND STAY
The University Campus lies in close vicinity of the Swami Vivekanand Airport and Raipur Railway Station. The distance from
the airport and railway station are 13 km (about 30 minutes) and 30 Km (about 45 minutes) respectively. Indigo has daily
flights to Raipur from all major metros including Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore. Details are available on request. The
University would be pleased to provide accommodation to the recruiters at its Guest house on the Campus.
