SCHOOL-BASED DISASTER RISK REDUCTION MANAGEMENT (SDRRM)

YEAR-END REPORT (S.Y 2021-2022)
The occurrence of unexpected calamities, whether they are man-made or

natural, would be the only thing that is definite. This remark is meant to serve as a
reminder to everyone that disasters are an awful part of life and that we should all
take precautions to protect our families, ourselves, and the community at large.
Through a variety of initiatives and campaigns, Dalamas Integrated School stays true
to its promise to provide students and stakeholders with a learning environment that
is safe and secure in addition to being conducive to learning. Sir Ahrnulfo Bendong
visionary leadership ideas have helped so much in maintain the safety and
conduciveness of the school. Sir Bendong has carried out and put into practice a few
safety measures through different trainings and orientations in order to adhere to
standards in disaster preparedness. Here are a few of those activities:
Simultaneous Earthquake Drill
The Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill purposely designed to fortified

individuals with the right amount of ideas and awareness to make them alert and
functional during unexpected earthquake calamity that may strike any moment in our
life. It stimulates us on our share of responsibilities and duties to secure ourselves
and the people within the sphere of our help.
The activity was cued by an audible alarm which lasted 20 seconds. The
teachers then get ready to perform the DUCK, COVER, and HOLD. The teachers
and learners hide under the tables, chairs and other accessible materials which they
could utilize to secure themselves against falling debris and any harmful falling
objects.
All the teachers then instructed to fall in line and proceed to a secured and open
field that is free from falling objects, cable wires and other materials that may cause

harm. After such, the teachers conduct the headcount to secure that all were
complete and unharmed.
The final stage of the activity was to conduct an orientation about earthquake and
other related disasters. In this stage, everything was explained by the moderator
including the important materials to be brought in case they need to evaluate the
respective area. The simultaneous earthquake drill is performed in the school once
in every quarter of the school year.
DRRM TRAININGS AND OTHER ACTIVITY
Dalamas Integrated School committed to be equipped with the right and relevant
knowlege by engaging to several trainings conducted by Red Cross and Division
DRRM. These activities have given the participants knowledge and skills related to
disaster respond and preparedness.DRRM Search and Rescue TrainingBeing
ready for any emergency necessitates being aware of how to act in a range of

challenging circumstances.Search and rescue is a technical service provided by a
team of specially trained individuals, personnel who rescue and care for casualties in
hazardous conditions when life is in danger. Disaster Risk Reduction Management
Division of Iligan City in partnership with Red Cross Iligan Chapter facilitated a
DRRM Search and Rescue Training for Divison Personnel and Teachers.DIS
SDRRM Coordinator Reimberto S. Alfaro Jr. attended the 3-day training on search
and rescue last October 4,5,and 6 2021 at Kabangahan Elementary School.The 3-
day intensive training have given the participants the essential skills on performing
search and rescue such as first aid, bandaging, CPR, rappelling and swift water
rescue.
Occupational First Aid Training
First aid training for teachers is vital to ensure proactive safety measures are in place
at your organization. A safe workplace breeds better productivity and avoids
preventable losses of manpower and damages to human and properties. Last

October 19-21, 2022 the Philippine Red Cross Iligan Chapter conducted an
occupational first aid training for the school heads, teachers and SDRRM focal
persons. DIS team comprises by the school head Sir Ryan Dela Cruz, SDRRM
Coordinator Reimberto Alfaro and two teachers Sir Rey ‘O” Niel Fama and Maam
Lady Grace Bagasol attended and participated well the activity. The training is
designed to prepare the teachers and school head on how to conduct basic life
support and first aid.

November 05, 2021. The school received first aid kits, safety helmets, stretcher,
megaphone and other response equipment. The teachers of DIS cannot contained
their happiness for these blessings because the said equipment is a great help for
the school in terms of preparation and responding for any disasters and
emergencies.

2021 DRR SKILLS OLYMPIC
With the goal of creating awareness

and skills among teachers in disaster
preparedness through engaging
activities, the division of Iligan City held the first ever DRR Skills Olympic. It was
participated by the different schools from every district. Dalamas Integrated School
participated the activity with SDRRM coordinator as the representative from the
school under the Team from South I district. The district ended up as Champion in
Saludo Contest and rank 6 for the over-all.

School-Based Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Training
In relation to managing disaster, the school has an important role in creating a

resilient community. Philippine Red Cross
Iligan Chapter conducted SBDRRMT
supported by the German Red Cross under
the project “Strengthening Capacity for
Conflict Sensitive Preparedness in
Vulnerable Communities in Mindanao “
(CONSENT DRR) held last January 12-14,
2022 at Pream’s Foodega Park, Iligan City.
The effort is to develop disaster preparedness in school-level. The 3-day training
was attended by Teacher AL, Maam Lady and Sir Jayson.

School-Based First-Aid Training for Teachers
Injury is a serious health issue and the main contributor to early morbidity and
mortality, which is the main cause of death among many people.
Evidence from school-based first aid programs demonstrates that instruction may be
put into practice successfully, offering a setting for educating people on how to
lessen the severity of injuries and improve basic life support
Dalamas Integrated School conducted a first-aid training last January 24-26 at the
school conference room. The activity was attended by all teaching and admin staff of
the school. The attending participants received a training on knot-tying techniques,
CPR, bandaging and water rescue.

2022 Inter-School Mural Painting Competition
Art has been a part of human culture since the first people drew pictures on the cave
walls - a way of preserving our human experience and comprehending the world.
Children's artistic abilities help them progress in a variety of directions, fresh
perspectives, experiences, and difficulties.
The Red Cross Iligan Chapter organized a mural painting competition with the goal
of fostering the students' artistic abilities while having fun, and the students' stunning
and vivid mural paintings are the outcome. This healthy competition was held to
encourage the learners and teacher’s creativity a game to help them recognize their
expression and cultivate a sense of responsibility. Teachers and students from DIS
took part in the 8-day activity. The school placed 6th during the awarding of the
competition.

Vulnerability and Capacity Assessment
Vulnerability and capacity are two key ideas that everyone should take into
consideration when managing disaster risk and reducing risk. The Red Cross
illuminated these ideas for us when conducting a two-day adjusted VCA. The
objective is to increase the school's ability to respond to emergencies and disasters.
Teachers, administrative staff, parents, and other participants in the exercise shared
their thoughts and ideas, which led to the identification of the school's level of
vulnerability and its capacity to responds in the event of a disaster.

on Fire and Earthquake

Competition, Dalamas Integrated School
emerged victorious as the winner. This
Inter-School Video Making
Competition's main goal was to give every school an equal opportunity to create an
awareness video about fire and earthquake drill. Additionally, the activity intends to
give participants a platform where they can use their local resources and abilities to
produce engaging videos that can instruct viewers on what to do in the event of a
disaster like an earthquake or a fire. The main Sir Ahrnulfo P. Bendong, SDRRM
Coordinator Reimberto Alfaro, and video maker and editor Maam Rezzel Montecillo
worked together as a team, and their efforts have been recognized with certificates,
awards, and tokens.
