ASSIGNMENT
BASIC AGRICULTURAL ENGINEERING
The candidate is required to go the workshop and take the photographs of the oxygen
acetylene welding set. Also, submit the photos of individual component namely a) oxygen
tank b) acetylene tank c) oxygen regulator d) acetylene regulator e) pressure gauges (outlet
pressure and cylinder content) and f) hoses (oxygen and acetylene) g) welding torch h) check
valve. Together with photos of the individual component. Discuss the functions and uses of
each components.
Oxygen regulator
Pressure gauges
Control valve
Welding torch
Acetylene tank
Oxygen tank
Functions and uses:
1. Oxygen tank
Storage of oxygen used to produce the gas flame.
2. Oxygen regulator
Control and reduces the oxygen pressure from any standard commercial
oxygen cylinder.
3. Acetylene tank
Storage of acetylene used to produce the gas flame.
4. Acetylene regulator
Control the acetylene pressure from any standard commercial cylinder.
5. Pressure gauges
To reduce the cylinder pressure to a suitable working pressure and produce a
steady flow a gas.
6. Check valve
To allow gases only to pass in one direction.
7. Hoses
To provide the passage for gases from pressure regulator to the welding torch.
The oxygen hose pipe is colour black and acetylene hose pipe is colour red.
8. Welding torch
To mix acetylene and oxygen in proper volume. The mixed gases are driven
out through a tip called nozzle with desired velocity to burn out.
Model: OEM 16851-21912 Piston
Suitable for Kubota Engine Models D722, Z482
General:
The Kubota Piston Oversize 0.50, weights 0.500 KG and it is compatible with Kubota
D722, Z482 engine.
The main functionality of the piston oversize 0.50 is to create the pressure inside the
cylinder so that it can end up creating ignition.
Cause of Fault:
Sometimes the cause of the fault is when piston rings do not have enough oil in the
engine which means that piston rings will overheat and break the piston.
To avoid the specific issue, you will need to make sure that there is enough oil in the
engine and also change it in regular base.
Question 2
A 30kw tractor has a mass of tonne is pulling a trailer loaded with oil palm FFB travelling at
a constant speed of 18 km/hr (5m/s) on a horizontal road. The rolling resistance (Rr) of the
tractor and trailer amount to 200N/tonne. Neglect the air resistance (Ra). For the above
conditions, the engine developed 30% of the tractor theoretical power ie 30kw x 30% = 9 kw
Calculate the maximum load of oil palm FFB with the trailer when pulled on the horizontal
road.
Answer:
On level road and no air resistance, Rg = 0 and Ra = 0
Tr = Rr + Rg + Ra
Tr = Rr + 0 + 0
Tr = 200N/t x 6t = 1200N
Power required by tractor = Tr x speed, V
Power required by tractor = 1200N x 5m/s
= 6000Nm/s = 6000watts
Power to pull the trailer = tractor theoretical power, 9kW (which is 30% X 30kW) –
power required or used to propel the tractor, 6 kW
Power remaining to pull the trailer loaded with oil palm FFB = 9kW – 6kW = 3kW
Power to pull the trailer, 3kW or 3000Nm/s = tractive resistance, Tr x traveling speed, V
Tr = 3000Nm/s / 5m/s = 600N
Tr = Rr = 200N/t x Y(t) = 600N
Weight of trailer loaded with oil palm FFB, Y = 600N / 200N/t = 3 tonne
